Thunderbird Usenet Filters Problem

I am using Thunderbird 115.5.1 (64-bit) on a Mac running Mojave.

I have two problems, one I may have done to myself. First, I need to know what all of the default fields in the Usenet Filters are. I may have deleted one of the default fields. The ones I am seeing are:

  • Subject
  • From
  • Date
  • Size
  • Customizable

(See image below, if it worked right)

There may have been one called "Message" that I deleted and I may or may not have set up myself.

The 2nd problem is being able to filter on the body of the message itself. If I want to search for the string "xyzzy", I see no way to do this. Have I broken something?

I think I figured out partially how to use "Customizable", but Body or Message does not work as a field name.

Recently (I think since v 115.4), I noticed that TB shows a completely wrong set of messages in the message list, while it applies a new or changed quickfilter

Say I have no quickfilter set, and enter a criterion. It takes a few seconds for it to filter all the emails, and then the message list pane changes to show only the matching emails. If I then modify my quickfilter expression (to be more inclusive or selective, or to correct a type), as soon as I edit it, a new set of matching entries is shown

If the quickfilter does include a 'body' selection (as opposed to only Sender/Recipient and/or Subject), the message display for some time appears to show *all* messages in the inbox (while it seems to perform the body search). This can be several seconds (I had cases where it took 10 seconds!) depending on the size of the inbox (and possibly other criteria) before the correct search result is shown.

This is disconcerting, espo as one does not see any visual feedback whether the search is still ongoing, or whether all the shown message in fact did match the filter criterion. Only when several second later it does flip to the limited list can one be sure.

I think message display should

 - either stay unchanged until the filtering has completed 
 - or blank/grey out while it searches

but in all cases there should be a visual indicator in the message list pane that the search is still working

Undo no longer includes undeleting a recently deleted email with the update to 115

Just recently upgraded to v115 (115.5.0) I noticed that Edit->Undo will undo moved messages and stuff, but not deleted messages. So if you send a message to the trash… (читать ещё)

Just recently upgraded to v115 (115.5.0)

I noticed that Edit->Undo will undo moved messages and stuff, but not deleted messages. So if you send a message to the trash and hit undo, it won't undo that. Instead, it will undo whatever you did before it (or won't undo anything if you haven't done anything else since opening TB).

Or is that just me?

Unable to unsubscribe folders for some accounts

I can unsubscribe folders for Gmail, but for AOL, Outlook and Yahoo, no matter how many times I untick the folder box, it is still displayed. I am running 115.4.2 though … (читать ещё)

I can unsubscribe folders for Gmail, but for AOL, Outlook and Yahoo, no matter how many times I untick the folder box, it is still displayed. I am running 115.4.2 though it has been like this for a long while. I've tried both in Linux and Windows versions. Why should it work for Gmail, but not the others ?

Long ago when Thunderbird came out, I drop outlook. Since then I've always used thunderbird for emails. I called it my one stop shop for all my emails coming in from different places to read my emails. Since this last update (which really needs works on or a patch needs to go out) this is my problem. Before the upgrade in Thunderbird, I had 5 different accounts. 1 from AOL (My main email), 1 from yahoo.com, and 3 from Gmail. After the upgrade, I had to delete the 3 from Gmail because it stop working as I wouldn't get anymore emails. I tried several times to recreate an account, and after I got to the part where Thunderbird would ping Gmail and said I was good, then another error came up and said, it couldn't reach the server. So before writing this email to the support of thunderbird, I tried a test. I can send an email from my AOL account to my Gmail account. I can then reply to the email from Gmail to AOL account. I then sent an email from Gmail account to AOL account and then reply from AOL account back to Gmail and it worked. So what is the problem with the middle man (Thunderebird)? Thank You Dan

My problem is that the button is there but does not react; absolutely nothing happens after the click. I have the impression that there is an error in the programming in the version for Win 7 Prof (32). In the version for WIN 7 Prof (64) the button works perfectly.

"Immediate Delete" (ie "SHIFT + DEL") of a message does not seem to sync back to IMAP server

I'm using Windows 10 and Thunderbird 115.5.1

When I have a message that I know I never care to see again, I press SHIFT+DEL to get rid of it immediately and bypass putting it in the Trash. I have ALWAYS done this. Something has changed semi-recently though, and at first I thought I was just mis-remembering deleting it, but now I have just been suffering with the problem.

I use Thunderbird on my personal computer at home using IMAP to connect to my email provider. I use my email providers web based email interface when I access my personal email from my work computer. Both Thunderbird and the email providers web based email interface access the same email account.

At home, using Thunderbird, if I SHIFT+DEL messages they are removed from my Inbox (and NOT put in Trash). Later when I go in to work and login to the web based email interface, the messages are still in my Inbox. While at home using Thunderbird, _IF_ I remember to "compact" my Inbox, then later when logging into web interface of email, the messages are NOT there. I have not changed any settings in Thunderbird. This is just some semi-new issue. As I said, I have always used SHIFT+DEL to get rid of messages.

My Thunderbird mail settings are set to "When I delete a message move it to 'Trash on [my imap server]". And this DOES work. If I just press the DEL key to delete a message, it gets removed from the Inbox and moved to Trash. And then if I login to the web based mail interface, the message is no longer in my Inbox (and properly in the Trash).

So there seems to be some kind of disconnect with the "Immediate Delete" (SHIFT+DEL) option. Is there some setting where I don't have to remember to "compact" my Inbox? I have "Compact all folders when it will save over 200MB in total" enabled (I have not changed this setting). That is about the only setting I can find about compacting, but I'm not sure it's really a "compact" problem.

Also of note, is that I RARELY QUIT Thunderbird or turn off my computer (I usually put it to sleep). But again, this is nothing new. And QUITTING Thunderbird does not help anyway. SHIFT+DEL a message, QUIT Thunderbird and then check email via web based interface, and the message is still there. I DO NOT (and have NEVER) had the option (under my account settings) "Message Storage -- Clean up ("Expunge") Inbox on Exit" enabled.

Right now, the only "fix" seems to be to remember to compact the Inbox.  :-/

I've been on another thread, "Not Junk Not Working" with no resolution. Have followed instructions in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-junk-spam-messages#thunderbird:win10:tb115 . Have rescued emails from Junk folder with shift+J hundreds of time but TB is NOT trainable. At this point I want to DISABLE ALL of TB junk-spam filtering capabilities. I have un-checked "Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account", closed TB and restarted my computer. On restart, even though "Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account" remains un-checked, emails still go to the junk folder. Note that the only emails that go to the junk folder are the ones in which I have cc'd myself. In other words, only my own email address is going to junk. BTW my own email address is on the white-list. I have spent way too much time reading all the Support community discussions and find no solution for HOW TO TURN IT OFF. Please help. Thanks. [TB 115.4.2, Win 11, have been TB user for 13 years & it's worked great until now]

I have used Thunderbird for more than 15 years and have always liked the way it works and promote it to anyone needing an email client, but the latest version 115 Super Nova is terrible. I don't like the font or anything in the update. Now I just found a new problem. Since last update messages show all previous messages from same sender with current message at the bottom of list. I have looked for a way to change this but have not found anything. It used to work so good and now it sucks.

I deleted lots of old emails to provide more disk space. Have a 1 terabyte external drive attached. I may have changed something in outlook (sweep) but I can't solve it. Any help appreciated.

The problem is a badly corrupted local mailbox. I'm using Thunderbird 115.5.0 (upgrading when it asks), on Windows 10 64-bit. I'm using gmail (imap.gmail.com). To keep gmail and my profile inbox (on my system SSD) manageable in size, I've been moving a month of mail at a time to a local folder on a hard drive. Sometimes that fails, and sometimes it takes a while (like an hour) to move the month of mail (typically 5000 messages) from All Mail to the local folder (e.g. Local Folders / 2022 / November .) Once they all look to be moved I've deleted that month's mail from All Mail and compacted it. Sometimes that takes a while (a couple of days.) Sometimes the move stops, and I start over. I wanted to reference an email from last year. (Black Friday offer from a particular vendor.) The local folder shows a lot of messages with no subject, correspondents is blank (dash) and the date is when I did the move. I found the messages I wanted with Filter. Some are good, some appear blank, or to have random pieces of other mail. When I looked at the mbox folder things were still corrupt. I moved 2 of the blank messages to a new subfolder. In an editor I could make out something, and Thunderbird still showed the original subject. I removed the .msf folder and that didn't help. I did Properties | Repair Folder and the mailbox became 0 size.

As an experiment I copied a random message to the subfolder. I can see the subject in Thunderbird (Garlic lovers, don't miss this deal!), and it looks good, but when I open the body I see XML and no body text or images. In the folder I have

Also in the process of messing around, a bunch of messages get duplicated.

Can I fix this corruption? How can I avoid the mailboxes become corrupt? Is it wrong to do what started, moving a month of mail from All Mail to a local folder, then deleting those messages from All Mail?

I spent a great deal of time adding sub-folders to my eMail INBOX, and then developing MESSAGE FILTERS to to sort my incoming emails into these Inbox-Sub folders. After closing down my computer, rebooting and re-entering Thunderbird, if I need to generate a new Message Filter. After selecting the appropriate data (email address) and go to the Message Filter box, no previously entered filters are displayed. Where did they go? Is it something I am doing wrong? Never had this problem before this new SuperDuper system.

Hello I need help and I have questions about Thunderbird and other things too. I have sbcglobal.net emails I wanted to atomically forward them to Spectrum.net using Imap. spectrum said they don't use pop anymore. And sbcglobal.net is still used apart yahoo. And they said I must sign for yahoo plus and after the 14-day trail I would be charged. in order to forward the income sbcglobal.net emails to spectrum. I don't understand Imap or know anything about Thunderbird, Can I use Thunderbird to setup Imap to atomically forward. my bcglobal.net email into spectrum.net account? If so, how do I do this? And what information do I need to have before setting this up? I know I need the server settings do I need both server settings for sbcglobal.net and spectrum.net and what Thunderbird, sever and can Thunderbird, setting muilpe emails at time I have 2 Gmail accounts I might wanted to use the imap to atomically forward. to spectrum.net one day? But right now, I am focus on atomically forward. my bcglobal.net email into spectrum.net account? using imap but I need help and know what I doing or what I need to do? can you help me?
