I have 4 e-mail accounts in TB, and I want to switch from the current default account to another. But how do I do that. I cannot see any button, place where to do that in the settings. Why the heck does TB needs to be so tricky to deal with, compared to Outlook?

Microsoft is changing the authentication method for outlook mail to OAuth2. I follow the guide here,

And I get to this screen - but my version of the program does not have OAuth2 as an option (see attached image).

Thanks for the help.

Setting up a desktop (Dell Inspiron) for neighbors using latest Linux Mint (21.3 Cinnamon). They have simple needs, LibreOffice, Firefox and email. Plain jane, nothing extra added, straight from latest Mint install.

I am having trouble adding a second email account in Thunderbird (115.8.1). First comcast account was very easy, standard comcast defaults, works fine, downloads and sends. Second comcast account keeps giving "Unable to Connect" poput screen. (https://localhost/?code=0.ac.w2.PciwTw)

I can login to either Xfinity email account through Firefox browser using same addresses ((username)@comcast.net) and passwords I am using to attempt to add second account in Thunderbird.

Tried it with Mint Firewall off, then on, then off again. Do I need to setup firewall for second account?

Can someone give me a hint on this problem? Is is Thunderbird? Comcast? Something else?

So, recently my keys expired, and I extended the expiry data via Kleopatra, a nice interface that comes with the GPG4Win suite - and I exported those keys out to the keys.openpgp.org keyservers. When I search for those keys at openpgp.org, they have the proper, updated expiry dates - and they show as that in Kleopatra - but when I see those keys (and all the exact same imported third-party public keys I've pulled into Kleopatra), they have the old expiry dates, and I cannot sign or encrypt emails. It's quite annoying.

What gives?

Also, what keyserver does Thunderbird use?!?

I must admit that I was very upset when I discovered some time ago that permissions for my files and folders in .thunderbird were messed up in a way that had given all files permission to run as programs. Now I have been living with it for a while without disaster, and I found out the reason for it is that I used ntfs format instead of ext4 on my backup disk. However it still feels bad, and I still don't know how to fix it correctly.

I have for many years before used Fat32 for my backup, .thunderbird included. And it looks like Fat32 takes all those permissions away, so if I just do that again and restore, the illness in quest will be cured. There are some symbolic files I can't copy to Fat32 but Thunderbird doesn't seem to care. Could that be a good way to fix it.?

Or can I perhaps expect an automatic update eventually will fix it.?

Or how do I fix it correctly.?

Thank you in advance.

Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.btinternet.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'.

There is no password change option on the Outgoing Server (SMTP). Connection Security is set to SSL/TLS and Authentication method is "Normal Password".

I have no issues to connect other Gmail accounts, and I tested 4 of them. Is there a way to know where does the issue come from and/or how to solve this? I already applied everything advised in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20, to no avail.

Last week I changed my Yahoo mail password and updated Apple mail on my devices with no problem. On my iMac, running Monterey OS 12.6.5, I use the latest version of Thunderbird for email. However, it has not accepted the new password, which I enter in the popup window requesting it. (See screenshots) I have tried going into settings/privacy and security and changing it in saved passwords and I've tried deleted saved passwords. I have also entered the secure key. Nothing works. All my mail folders are there. I would really appreciate help on how to get Thunderbird to use my new Yahoo password. Thanks.

I have TB, Windows 10 64x and I only use Firefox as browser. I keep all up to date.

I use several email accounts from different domains and mail service providers, and I digitally signed for two of them with PgP. Up to two months ago, I was doing so with no problem -with Enigmail originally, and then with the integrated system in TB.

About two months ago, I installed one official -Goverment- certificate in Firefox (not in TB) but -coincidence or not, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

A few days after one TB update, I was unable to sign any mail digitally, and since then I get the following message The configured key XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX cannot be found on your keyring.

I erased previous keys and created/generated new ones, and I tagged them as personal keys, but it still does not work. I erased all of them again, set one of the email addresses as preferred account in TB, generated the new keys, and I still get the same problem.

Furthermore. When I generate a new key, if I try to refresh it in TB keymanager menu, it responds "We could not find any usable key with matching criteria", in spite that the key that has just been generated, still appears in the key manager.

Thus, I cannot encrypt or digitally sign any mails.

The Console shows the following:

GenericSendMessage FAILED: [Exception... "compose-send-message prevented" nsresult: "0x80004004 (NS_ERROR_ABORT)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/messengercompose/MsgComposeCommands.js :: CompleteGenericSendMessage :: line 5943" data: no] MsgComposeCommands.js:5995 [Exception... Any input will be more than welcome

I have a problem with Thunderbird 115.11.1 with the POP3 server inbound.att.net. Someone on at at7t forum suggested changing from Userid/password to Secure Mail Key. I had previously set up two Keys with at&t, but AI have never activated them. I looked at one URL, and was able to change the settings for inbound.att.net. But I did not see anywhere to enter one of the Keys that I had generated earlier. When I tried to re-configure outbound.att.net, I did not see a OAuth2 option. I do not need to re-configure outbound at the present time, as I can send mail without a problem. But receiving mail does not work. Here is what I see in the error console log:

What do I have to do to get one of my two Keys into the inbound Thunderbird configuration? Thanks.

THUNDERBIRD: I've been getting hacker/phishing e-mails on one of my accounts. These are usually but not always from different EU countries. I have message filters that gets most but not all of them. The hacker e-mails are full of random /ab/cd/... hex characters. I think they're trying to use some sort of buffer overflow exploit. I don't think you have it. They also send short message with "click here to unsubscribe" and not much else. (Naturally, I don't "click here".)

I have two questions: 1) It's not clear on the message filters whether I should delete them before or after the junk filter. Either way some of them seem to sneak through to the trash folder. What's the recommended setting so that the filter action takes place? (Filter action == delete) 2) I tried adding a check in the message body for /ad/ or something else. With the body containing all sorts of /hex-pair/ random stuff, the check was pretty sure to hit. The delete action never seemed to work. (Sometimes clicking on the inbox then back to the trash folder gets rid of them. Sometimes not.) These apparent attempt to exploit buffer overflow messages do not contain normal written text.

Maybe you could help me find some other way of auto-deleting this junk. It comes in with all sorts of random subject titles that I can tell are this spam, but would be hard to auto-detect without a sophisticated AI.

First, I am supporting a family member, who has TB configured on two separate machines. Configuring for Comcast IMAP+SMTP, in the usual manner; nothing esoteric about that, all very routine.

Machine A seems to be working okay, no errors. TB up to date on this machine, connected over an ethernet wire, if that makes any difference.

Machine B, getting spam prompted over IMAP 1014 errors. No other information is provided than 1014.

I have tried dropping the account configuration hundred percent, restarting TB, re-adding the account configuration, to no avail. Still spam 1014 errors.

I did happen to notice TB needed an update, so I did that as well. Still 1014 errors.

I have also tried dropping that email saved password from the saved passwords, and responding to the subsequent re-enter password prompt. Also to no avail.

What if anything might have changed, and how can we contend with this? What is so corrupt, do we need to be mucking around in any AppData files, roaming files, etc?

We are not the only ones, apparently, to have bumped into this issue. Not sure if this is also Comcast specific, since a recent TB and/or IMAP specification change, i.e. maybe we try with a gmail account, for instance.

Wondering also, is it IMAP and/or Comcast somehow tieing Machine A to the IMAP and not releasing that association? Knowing a little bit about IMAP in this regard. And/or somehow now prohibiting Machine B+ from establishing a connection?

Hi, 3 weeks ago I suddenly could not log in to my email without errors.

First I get a Google screen "Choose an account" showing the three Gmail accounts I use. I select the first one.

"Mozilla Thunderbird wants to access your Google Account". This refers to calendars. I take the Allow option.

Then I get the message "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Thunderbird detected a potential security threat and did not continue to localhost. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details."

When I close this window I get another Google screen .

"Mozilla Thunderbird wants to access your Google Account". This refers to i) mail, ii) contacts, and iii) calendars. I take the Allow option.

Then I get the same message message "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Thunderbird detected a potential security threat and did not continue to localhost. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details."

This process cycles through the other two emails. Then I get and authentication failure message.

I have seen hints that this might be a certificate issue but I have tried in vain to find certificates stored in Thunderbird.

Any help approeciated.

Thanks

I'm trying to set up Thunderbird as a client for outlook O365.

We use PIV cards for authentication.

When I try to add the account, a pop up window comes up asking me to authenticate. Thunderbird does not play well with PIV cards, so it doesn't go through (the card works well with Chromium but not Firefox).

I tried installing the Owl for Exchange plugin, but when I try to add the account, the pop up window to authenticate closes quickly and I see a message saying "gMsgWindowList[msgWindowHandle] is null".

Any advice? Alternatively, is it possible to configure Thunderbird to use Chromium for authentication?
