I have been using Thunderbird for years, but this latest upgrade to 78.4.0 really screwed it up. I opened Thunderbird yesterday, and it had lost it's connection to gmail, asking me for the account and password before it would work. I did that, now it is downloading OLD emails again! I remember some setting that would only download emails after a set date, but cannot find that now. I have used Thunderbird because I do not like the gmail interface, and have a LOT of folders in Thunderbird with rules to move messages to the correct folder. That would be very painful to try to accomplish in gmail.

How do I fix this? I cannot get my recent emails now, and am really upset. I certainly do not want to wait for it to eventually download THOUSANDS of duplicate emails before it gets to the current ones.

I am running Thunderbird 78.4.0 (64-bit) on MacOS Catalina, Macbook Pro 16,1. Today, I began experiencing a login failure with one Google account (the others are fine), whereby the modal asks me to log in. I verified that my stored password is correct -- I can log in via the web portal with this, no problem. I type in the email address, the modal resets to asking for the email address again.

I have tried this in safe mode, same results. I'm stumped as to what could be wrong.

Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to local folders/ sent - dariel ****

I was using multiple ids 4 don't not we're went wrong please help me out my business got tucked due to this error

I've just downloaded Thunderbird 78.4.0 as my previous email programme has died. I have used Mailwasher in the past to eliminate junk emails but there seems to be a problem working with Thunderbird. Emails download okay but do not clear on Mailwasher when downloaded. If I delete an email on Mailwasher it removes it from the Thunderbird in-box.

I am not a techie in any way so would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi.

I am located in the UK and subscribe to BBC newsfeeds. I'm using Thunderbird 78.4.0 on Windows 10. News items come in regularly in the normal way, but a problem arises when I want to look at individual news items.

When I double-click on an item of interest, I am expecting the news item to open in a browser in a new Thunderbird tab as normal. However, this only works properly about one time in ten.

What usually happens when I double-click on an item of interest, is that Thunderbird does open the item in a new tab, but only very briefly. I see the proper news web page for a fraction of a second only, then the page is immediately blanked. The tab remains open, but blank, with the correct web page address present at the top. If I want to, I can click on the link and open it with a seperate (Edge) browser.

Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated.

If I copy an Excel table and paste it into an e-mail I am composing, it shows up beautifully as a table in the draft e-mail, but anyone receiving the e-mail on an iPad or iPhone sees gibberish.

Same result if I paste the table into Word first, and then into the e-mail being composed.

If I paste into Notepad, and then into the e-mail, all the formatting is lost

If I save the table into a pdf file, "copy" the image from the pdf, and paste it into the e-mail it shows up as text, but some text gets dropped and line endings get messed up, and I cannot completely fix them - Thunderbird RTF editor cannot seem to remove spurious line endings (and it is far too much work anyway).

Are there any workarounds?

Good day!

My Mozilla Thunderbird client was receiving messages until 6:35PM last night and then this morning when I try to open up my emails it's saying "Sending of password for user info@butcherboys.ca did not succeed. Mail server mail.butcherboys.ca responded: Authentication failed."

I've read a bunch of the related articles and searched as much as I could! No idea why it would stop working all of a sudden!

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Can't connect to Yahoo IMAP & SMTP servers (TB 78.4.0 & TB 68.12.1)

Since today I can't access my Yahoo IMAP and SMTP servers, neither with TB 78.4.0 nor TB 68.12.1. The access to Yahoo's POP3 servers is possible as I have still one Yahoo e-mail account which uses POP3 server.

Yahoo had announced that they will restrict the access to their e-mail servers for "outdated Apps", but to Thunderbird this restriction should not apply.

Things I've done so far:

  • allowed cookies in "Privacy & Security" (was already set)
  • deleted all old passwords
  • tried to change authentication method to OAuth2 both on IMAP and SMTP servers, worked for the IMAP servers only

The following errors occur:

  • TB just says "Couldn't connect to server imap.mail.yahoo.com", and that's it. No "Enter password for server XYZ" dialog is shown
  • I can't change the authentication method for SMTP servers to "OAuth2", the option is not shown in the drop down list
  • since one of my Yahoo e-mail accounts (which is accessable via POP3) is working with TB, I've tried to access my other Yahoo accounts via POP3 servers instead of IMAP servers, but failed

I would be grateful for any help and ideas.

Hey!

I have problem viewing junk (spam) messages for all accounts in unified folders mode. It doesn't show anything for this folder: https://take.ms/D0pbO but it shows messages when I select specific account under that global Junk folder.

How can I fix that? I want to check all spam on one screen for all my accounts. Thanks for the help!

I just upgraded to 78.3.2, and the message list panel now has significantly more spacing, less denstiy. There is more whitespace between lines. And there does not appear to be any option to reset this back to the previous compact view?

EDIT: Adding a note about an additional issue with the message list panel that is discussed in this thread... Prior to v78.3.2, a message/line in the message list pane would not become highlighted until I *clicked* on it. Now, whenever I just pass my mouse over the list, the message under the mouse becomes highlighted (and the last message(s) *selected* also remains highlighted). This results in two or more non-adjacent messages being highlighted in the same way at the same time. This is a poor usability experience and dangerous design that has caused me to perform operations on unintended messages multiple times, even nearly accidentally deleting messages. This usability degradation creates a risk of data loss.

Hi I'm running Thunderbird 78.1.1 in Win10 v2004.

Today, the Unified Inbox has stopped displaying emails from the inboxes of all accounts. Further, when you click on (Unified) Inbox, as your mouse hovers over items in the incomplete list, all text disappears. When clicking on an item, it does not show-up in the reading pane.

Yesterday, I did move the location of local folders, but this went smoothly and all emails are visible. Thunderbird was working fine. No updates had been installed overnight, but since the issue occurred, I have updated windows from 1906 (I think) to 2004. But this has not solved the issue.

Reading past posts from 2015, there seems to be a way of deleting folders form the profile folder to force Thunderbird to recreate the unified folders, but the guidelines were out of date.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I migrated to a new PC, installed Thunderbird, and copied over my Thunderbird folder from the old PC. When I launch everything looks OK but when I open a message (any message in any folder) no content is displayed. There's no header, no message, nothing at all except a new tab for the message. If I view Message Source or Print Preview it shows that the content is there, so I'm not sure why Thunderbird isn't displaying it.

Hi,

I have been trying to login to my Thunderbird account for quite a while however keep on getting the same error message - 'Sending of password for user ************** did not succeed. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: Server error - Please try again later.'

I have been trying again later for weeks now using the right password so surely there is something wrong? It can't just be a matter of 'trying again later'?

I'd really appreciate some help with this - thanks so much!

I reported back when the most critical issues from 78 stopped making Thunderbird completely unusable, after a couple of bug fix updates came out.

But my last post/question still hasn't been acknowledged or addressed--LDAP address books now do show up in the list, but I haven't gotten a working LDAP lookup since 78 disrupted everything. The fixes to everything else in the Address Book don't appear to have corrected whatever's wrong there.

As noted in the original comment, lookup of user certificates for encrypting emails has been questionable for a while, but at least core functionality of user lookups had been working up until 78.

Before now I was the only one I knew definitely experiencing this but I just got a note from someone asking about the same broken LDAP behavior and it's definitely something that should work.

Every time I try to do a search I get prompted to authenticate vs the LDAP, then the popup goes away and nothing happens.
