I've used Thunderbird for years. After the most recent update in late July 2020 (78.0.1), Thunderbird no longer works. It will not download new mail. It does connect to the IMAP server but then gets to "checking mail server capabilities" and hangs with the spinning circle indefinitely.

I have not done anything to Thunderbird, I just let it install the update. I did not install updates to any other program on my PC. I'm running Windows 10 on a laptop that is about 4 months old. Thunderbird worked absolutely fine before the 78 update.

I am not experiencing any connection issues or problems with any other running programs.

I have tried the following fixes already: 1. Checking my account configuration and confirming it is correct with my email provider. I have the correct ports listed and correct server names. 2. Changing the timeout setting from 100 to 2000. 3. I am able to access my email on my provider's Web interface so this isn't a password issue. There is no CAPTCHA required either. 4. I checked my anti-virus/anti-malware program (Kapersky). Thunderbird and Mozilla are both listed in the "allowed apps" list. I tried removing them both and re-adding, as well as searching for other variations of Mozilla/Thunderbird to add. I also tried Kapersky's "refresh" function. 5. I tried restarting my computer. 6. I tried rebooting my wireless Internet connection. 7. I tried using Thunderbird's "start in safe mode with apps disabled" function. 8. I tried re-installing 78. 9. I tried clearing caches and cleaning with CC Cleaner.

Nothing has worked. Something in the 78.0.1 update has messed things up. Thank you for looking into this.

In Thunderbird, my type size is set to Medium but displays Small on my computer, although the recipients see it as Medium. When I increase the type size using the up-arrow letter to see more clearly what I'm writing, my display becomes Medium, but my email recipients receive a Large-size message. How do I make the type size display correctly on my computer, that is, display in the size I have selected? Hello. I've used Thunderbird for email for many years. A few days ago, a popup box offered an update, and since accepting it, the interface looks a little different, everything seems fine, (all email boxes there, mail downloads to computer okay,) but... when I open an email it's just a blank page. (This is both new mail and ones received earlier.) The only way I can view my actual mail is to restart Thunderbird in safe mode. I have 4 Extensions installed, three of which have been turned off as being incompatible with Version 78.1.0 which is the version newly installed by the update. Disabling the fourth extension does not fix the problem. My mail comes in using IMAP from my hosting on 1and1 The previous Thunderbird version before the update was 68.5.0 Windows 7 I would appreciate any advice as to a solution to this odd problem. My old mail account is POP3 only. Incoming, POP3, mail.tpg.com.au, 110, STARTTLS, Normal Password Outgoing SMTP, smtp.tpg.com.au, 587, STARTTLS, Normal Password After many attempts Thunderbird 78 failed to add this new account.

After removing ver.78 an old ver.68 was installed and the new account was added without any problems on the first try using the settings shown above.

Does this indicate that Thunderbird v.78 is no longer compatible as a POP3 client or is this a serious bug?

On the 21st July Thunderbird updated. Since then I have not been able to get or send emails on any accounts (I mainly use Gmail though). There is a locked symbol by each of my mailboxes. I have checked the Gmail account settings and they are all correct. I thought that this issue would resolve itself, but it hasn't. Any suggestions? I don't want to uninstall and reinstall because of all my settings and folders that I have set up.

Thunderbird version 78.1.0 working on Windows 10.

I migrated to a new PC, installed Thunderbird, and copied over my Thunderbird folder from the old PC. When I launch everything looks OK but when I open a message (any message in any folder) no content is displayed. There's no header, no message, nothing at all except a new tab for the message. If I view Message Source or Print Preview it shows that the content is there, so I'm not sure why Thunderbird isn't displaying it.

For the record, a typical list name is NE Volunteers 1. This has worked well in previous versions of Tbird. My mail provider is BT I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2020 My OS is Win 10 My Tbird is 78.1.1 As far as I know, all the above are current versions, as at 08/08/2020 I attach a screenshot of my Server settings

After doing a BIOS update on my HP desktop, it corrupted the Windows 10 OS, and a reinstall was necessary. My original Thunderbird profile was saved, but copying the profile files to the new profile did not work. I have added images in Explorer of the files in both the original and the new Thunderbird. Somehow, Thunderbird was updated on my system without my permission. I have now lost everything -- all my archives, all my structures, and the ability to send email from some accounts.

How do I back out of this installation and install a previous version so I can get my content back? One of the messages was my friend's suicide note which I had archived. It is now gone. I am not happy with what Thunderbird has done behind my back. And I have financially supported this effort.

This problem ha been asked by a lot of people using Optimum Online's SMTP Server port 25. Optimum Online is doing it on purpose to anyone who sends emails. What they are doing is purposely accusing people of spamming. They will make up some story that 3rd party monitoring company's have reported your IP address as spamming which is nothing but a lie. Optimum will put you on hold for at least an hour and give you nothing but the run around. They are doing it purposely. Every time you contact their support, its another story after another excuse. Even if you dont send emails or a few, they will still pretend like its an actual problem.

They will say that their "email department" is working on the situation, when they arent because it was something they did on purpose. Weeks will go by and they will give you a support ticket only to find out that they havent even looked at it.

So anytime you get that error, dont think its you, its Optimum doing it to you on purpose. Both port 587, 465, and 25 are blocked if you use their mail server. The first thing you should do is report Optimum to the FCC and the Attorney Generals office. Part of their contract with you and what your paying for is the ability to send and receive emails. They are breaching their own legal contract with you and they have no problem violating their own rules. They think they can get away with anything because in NY and NJ you have two choices, bad and worse (optimum or verizon).

I am an 86 year old antediluvian who can't find a basic log-in account. As soon as I hit the Thunderbird file I find myself right into the Thunderbird mail account with a mini window asking that I confirm/change my 'mail.' password - what password? To the best of my knowledge I have never entered one. I must have changed it a hundred times now and none get accepted! Furthermore there does not appear to be any help advice on what to do next. And boy do I need help.

Thunderbird just did an update today to version 78.1.1 and since then when I open Thunderbird a screen pops up that says Google, One account, all of google. It says log in with your google account. When I enter my email address and click next it just keeps going back to the email blank. I can't get past the screen that asks me to sign in with my google account.

Not all mail accounts on my domain are able to send mail. One account sends and receives just fine; another account receives but cannot send. Same settings. Same domain. I deleted the failing account and set it back up again. It still cannot send mail. I have several domains on the same server and I am now seeing the same behavior for various accounts. The messages reads: "Sending of the message failed. Unable to communicate securely with peer: requested domain name does not match the server’s certificate. The configuration related to webmail.kittysave.org must be corrected."

That is odd because I can send mail from the other accounts on that domain that also use web.kittysave.org.

I have explored every single one of the accounts across the domains and I see that all the settings are the same. Must I reinstall the old version of Thunderbird to get my send capabilities restored?
