I'm running the current version (144.0, 64-bit) on a Dell Inspiron laptop. Just now, I tried to save a bookmark, but I found that a goodly number (not all) of my bookmark folders had disappeared. When I tried to restore from a Firefox backup, I got an "Unable to process file" message. What's wrong , how do I fix it, and how do I get the missing bookmarks back?

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN, I HATE HAVING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY TABS DISAPPEAR WHENEVER IT CLOSES WEIRDLY AND I LITERALLY CANT RECOVER ANYTHING, AND IT GIVES ME SOMETHING NEW, WHAT THE HELL EVEN IS THIS FIRST FILE, I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN THAT JSONLZ4 FILE E V E R!!! AND WHEN I TRIED TO DO THE SAME METHOD OF REPLACING THE FILES WITH ONE OF THE OLD RECOVERY FILES LIKE IN MY OLD QUESTION, IT DOESNT FUCKING WORK, SORRY TO SWEAR BUT ITS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS DUDE!!!

The initial problem I was dealing with was FF kept directing me to Youtube every time I clicked on a NORMAL link in my google search. 🤷♀ I tried several different links but same result....Youtube again!

This is where I went down the rabbit hole. 🙄 My first step was to get some help with my Firefox browser for this 'redirecting' issue. Under the help heading, "More Troubleshooting Information" I found "Give Firefox a Tune-Up using Refresh". Hmmm, maybe this will fix the issue?? I carefully read the following before proceeding....

"Start fresh to fix performance issues. This will remove your extensions and customizations. You WON'T LOSE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION LIKE BOOKMARKS AND PASSWORDS."

WRONG!!! MISLEADING!!! LIES LIES LIES!!! 😡😤😡

I lost almost ALL of my saved bookmarks except for TEN (the most recently used) that still remained after the refresh was completed! I literally lost over a hundred of them that I had accumulated while using Firefox for so many years!! 😲😣🤦♀ 21 different folders, Home, Travel, Shopping, Banking etc, each containing 10-30 OR MORE bookmarks to sites I need to SAVE to be able to revisit later when needed. ALL GONE!!! 😡😤

I have been loyally using ONLY Firefox as my browser for 2 decades!! Now the only thing I can say about Firefox is a whole lot of curse words!!

WHY WOULD FIREFOX INCLUDE SUCH A #$@&! STATEMENT??? "You won't lose essential information like Bookmarks and Passwords"......YES YOU WILL!!!

This NEEDS TO BE REMOVED!!

Why not be an honest and reliable browser?? Include information that if you perform a refresh, you WILL lose these essentials but you might possibly be able to recover them from hidden files somewhere, but you won't easily know where to find them!! 😉

The next time I have ANY issues using Firefox I won't be 'refreshing' nothing at all!! I won't troubleshoot NOTHING!! I will just copy and save all of my bookmarks and SWITCH TO GOOGLE CHROME!! 👍

I restarted Firefox today to find you have removed all my 100+ tabs, which I had arranged in folders, and replaced the vertical settings I had with Tree Style Tabs, which in the past has always run slow. I was greeted with childish graphics inviting me to set up a profile and offering me an introduction to Firefox. I have been using Firefox for years, mostly happily, until you screw up the view I had spent hours setting up. You are turning into a cheap Microsoft but with even less consideration for your users. Rebuilt my computer, restored Bookmarks from 'bookmarks-2025-08-30.html' but the original 'Other bookmarks' (just below 'Bookmarks toolbar') is now empty and has been moved to the bottom of all my other bookmarks in a new 'Other Bookmarks' folder. How do I get the contents back in the 'Other bookmarks' (just below 'Bookmarks toolbar'). P.S. I have a backed up 'bookmarks-2025-08-30.json' as well as a ' bookmarks-2025-08-30.html' available, if that would help. Regards and Best, NP_145

I cannot figure out how to add my favorite things to the toolbar. The toolbar doesn't even show up at the top of my page. I just get a string of random bookmark names under the address bar with the Other bookmarks folder at the end. I can't even get rid of "Finish Setup" which is the last one shown. How do I do find where the toolbar is hidden and get it to show? Once I do find it, how can I add my favorite items to the toolbar? I even had ask a question online to find out how to restore my most recent bookmark which was backed up in the documents folder on my computer. Any suggestions would be very helpful. I don't like the way Mozilla Firefox looks now. It isn't as easy to use. I have included what the top of page looks like now. I am sorry I didn't think to keep one of how it used to be.

I had a lot of tabs open in Firefox, and they always stayed there even after restarting my PC. But suddenly, all of my tabs disappeared, and I can’t recover them using “Recently Closed Tabs.” Can I get them back?

Hi. I have all the automatic opening of the last session turned on. So for the last two months, when I fired up my PC, all the tabs came back on. That is, until today!

Because I mistakenly clicked "X" when I had private browsing on in other window.

This created error that resulted in blank screen coming in... All my tabs are gone, and they are not in the recent history. How can I bring them back on"? they were just there not 10 minutes ago.

bookmark bar and all my bookmarks are gone I followed Support instructions, clicked on Manage bookmarks and went nowhere. I really need this function to work as I am sight impaired and can't use my phone for much. Please help.

Using firefox 144 on Kubuntu 24 LTS, on wayland, with Nvidia drivers.

I'm one of those guys with 500+ tabs. I also have a bunch of tabs open in specific containers and I recently spent a lot of time sorting most of my hundreds of tabs into a bunch of neat tab groups.

I'm not using any "sync between devices" functionnality

At some point, I open firefox like usual, and I noticed that it appears to be glitched. The rightmost tab (the last tab I had opened) seems to be working fine, but every other tab has no text, and I cannot switch to them. However, the colored line indicating that a tab is opened in a specific container still appears, it's just the tabs names that are missing. Also, firefox seems to generally not be responding, so I decide to close and reopen it.

Upon reopening, firefox restores my tabs, but I'm left with only the last tab I mentionned earlier. The "restore last session" button doesn't appear in "history". Neither "recently closed windows" nor "recently closed tabs" contain my 500+ tabs

I still have my extensions

I still have my bookmarks

I still have my base "new tab" setup, with my background image and my "pinned" websites (I don't know how it's called)

I still have my container "rules" (i.e, firefox still proposes to open specific domains with specific containers, even if I have lost old tabs that were opened in those containers)

I still have my "auto sign-ins" (i.e, I can still log into some websites without re-typing my password)

I have lost my tab groups

I'm used to losing my tabs. So I close firefox, and I go look in it's files.

The image firefox-mpris in the files still displays a youtube tab I was watching (yet this tab doesn't get restored)

I make a copy of sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore-backup, and try restoring from each backup by replacing sessionstore.jsonlz4 :

- the default sessionstore.jsonlz4 doesn't have my tabs of course

- previous.jsonlz4 has only the single last tab I mentionned earlier.

- recovery.jsonlz4 contains only 20-ish of some of the most recent tabs I had

- the "upgrade" files contains a bunch of tabs but it's from a few months ago so I'm missing the most recent stuff

Using this "scrounger" tool, I can look at what these files contain

- sessionstore.jsonlz4 and previous.jsonlz4 both contain the single tab we talked about before (plus closed windows I don't care about)

- recovery.jsonlz4 contains exactly 25 recently opened tabs (plus closed windows I don't care about)

- upgrade.jsonlz4 contains 500+ tabs (with container ids, yay), but not the most recent ones of course (plus closed windows I don't care about)

From I saw online it looks like firefox only stores the last 25 tabs in these files, which are the last tabs I actually opened, even if more actually exist. What I really don't understand is : - Why does my upgrade.jsonlz4 file have more than 25 tabs then ? - Where are the other tabs supposed to be stored then ? the .jsonlz4 stores the last 25 tabs, yet firefox (usually) remembers all my 500+ tabs anyway, so where are they stored ?

My bookmarks have stopped working. When I went to Edit Bookmark I found they are all empty. I can create a new bookmark as usual, but I have over 300 bookmarks that no long function that are very important to my work. Is there any way I can possibly restore them, as my work depends on them?

Old laptop died , its not repairable, but the SSD Hard drive is OK , all the data on it and software is intact , but only thing I cant find or access is Firefox bookmarks and thats bad as i use them for my work ...what can i do to recover my bookmarks ???

Last night I had an operating system update. Before the OS update, I closed all open apps, including Firefox. In the past, the session I closed the previous evening was restored. But this morning, all my pinned tabs and other open tabs are gone, and Restore Previous Session does not appear as an option on the dropdown menu. Recently Closed Tabs is pretty random, not really helpful. Recently Closed Windows only shows one tab that I opened this morning (probably a mistake on my part). Is there any way for me to retrieve the session from yesterday?

Firefox updated automatically. No bookmarks or history??? I cannot find anything. This is my old Windows 10 computer. Have bookmarks on Windows 11 computer. Afraid of updates. any help?

My wife's Firefox was triggered from an e-mail link and in the process got updated to release 141.0 The result is that the tabs from the previous verion have not loaded. Can I still recover them?
