Prior to recent updates, Firefox tabs that were opened from a link on a webpage would always open right next to the current tab. Which was fine and wonderful. Sadly, following recent version updates new tabs opened from links now tend to 'wonder' off to the far end of whatever other links may have also been opened previously from that site. The problem with this new behaviour is that such tabs quickly become lost amongst the various branches of the tree as other links are opened in 'child' tabs of links that have gone before. In short, this new behaviour results in a complete confusing mess, especially as the newly opened tabs may end up so far off to the right that it's difficult to find the way back to the page they were opened from! Please could you at least provide an option so the user can set new links to open right next to the current tab, as they used to do, rather than some no doubt logical but nonetheless baffling and impractical location some 6, 21 or even more tabs away from the current tab. Thanks
WHY is it that every time I try to search for something in Firefox it takes me to Wikipedia? I cannot even use Firefox any longer for searches.

Firstly, when I open a second Firefox browser window, it doesn't show any pinned tabs, and secondly, if I close the window without the pinned tabs last and then reopen Firefox, the pinned tabs are gone.
That's very annoying. Do you have a solution for this? Am I making mistakes in the settings?
Thanks for an early reply on this. Best regards Stefan

How to reproduce: While private window is open, close Firefox regular window.
Issue: all existing tabs will be lost (Open previous windows and tabs is checked). Hope this got fixed soon.
Expected behavior: All tabs are kept when closing regular window with private window opened
Current workaround: In new window, restore the previous tabs from "History" > "Recently Closed Tabs"

Hi, I disabled several options in About:Config, and a feature previously disappeared. When I pressed the scroll button in the diamond, it opened a tag and moved to it automatically. Whatever you do with the current tag, I want it. Please help me.

In short, "Open previous windows and tabs" is no longer working. I'm using version 111.0 (64-bit).
I have done the following: 1. Troubleshooting mode 2. Removed or disabled all my extensions 3. Refresh Firefox - twice! 4. Disconnect sync across my two laptops
Still, nothing is fixing the issue. My previous windows and tabs are not being restored.
Help, please!
after downloading version 111.01, I have lost all open tabs and history. How can I recover a couple hundred open tabs?

Since one of the last updates the behaviour for the tab re-sizing got messed up.
When there are only a few tabs with full size, those as well as the additional plus icon is shown. But when there are more tabs and they are re-sized, then the right side gets cut off. First the new tab icon dissapears and then also the last tab get's cut off.
I attached a screenshot with three firefox browser windows showing the problem, as well as a forth one with only 3 tabs open, which are shown in full size including the new tab icon.
This is a new problem as the tab resizinng and the new tab icon used to work perfectly fine no matter how many tabs were opened.
Recover previously open tabs.

Is there a way to stop this tab (https://www.bing.com/new#examples) opening when I open up Firefox? I believe it is to do with when an update occurs. I don't use Bing, never have and never will, it's frustrating. I have disabled all settings related to Bing that I can find in the settings. Am I missing something? I just want to start where I left off, not be bombarded with Bing at every turn (Microsoft takes care of that for me)

I have looked at dozens of support Q and A's and have not been able to figure out how to get links to work how I think they should.
If I click on a link in a tab that opens another site I want that to open a new tab. If I click on a link that goes to a a page on the current website I want it to be in the same tab. If I click on a link in an external program then I want that to be a new tab.
I have played around with about:config settings for browser.link (there are 6) using info found here and elsewhere and no combination I have tried does what I think should happen every time. Some websites do act correctly but others pretty soon have many open tabs when all I was doing was trying to navigate the site.
I even tried the "Open link with new tab" plugin and it doesn't do what it says it can do (I have checked "Open a link to a different site on a tab").
Anyone know how to get Firefox to do what I think is the obvious way to handle it?
Like the title already explains. I hit Ctrl-W and the entire firefox window with multiple tabs disappeared. Had to reopen it and restore session.

There is an answer about holding `Alt`, but that is a workaround.

I am running Firefox 111.0.1 on macOS 13.2.1. After upgrading to 111, Firefox's ability to remember per-site zoom settings seems to have disappeared. Based on my perusal of some previous issues with Firefox zoom levels, I tried changing the `browser.display.os-zoom-behavior` setting in `about:config` from `1` to `0`, but this has no effect. Is there some way to restore per-site zoom level retention? That was a really nice feature that I relied on quite a bit.

I'm referring to the reply from Paul here that tried to sell us the useless floating tabs "feature". Now, several years later, there's no sign of any of this, and we still have to deal with the downsides of floating tabs.

After restarting my pc, signed in on another windows account, which does not have Firefox installed. Then, signed in to my account, opened Firefox (Developer Edition 112.0b9 (64-bit)), however, all of the tabs, pinned tabs and history were gone. Can't restore from the menu, can't restore from the Profile folder, because files in it were overwritten when I signed in to my account (according to time modified). Anybody been in the same situation? Any advice? Thx
