I've been using Firefox for a while, and while there are many things I like about it, it has always been a resource hog. In the past I could get around this by just killing Firefox in Windows Resource Manager and restarting, but ever since getting a new computer an upgrading to Windows 11, it's gotten worse. Every couple of days my computer freezes for 10 or more minutes, I'm having to do a hard reboot ever few days, and I'm even bluescreening about twice a month. I'm pretty sure Firefox is the culprit because killing it will usually resolve the issue.

I'm wondering if there is some way to put Firefox in a sandbox so it does not consume nearly all available memory and other computer resources. It is by far the biggest consumer of resources on my system and I do not want to dedicate 4GB+ of memory to an app that is just showing a couple of web pages and playing YouTube videos.

Updated to esr 128.14 Now Reddit (Redgifs) Hosting site for gifs crashes Firefox and cripples my PC. I've tried restarting in safe mode, then refreshing Firefox. Nothing is working. Reddit support just has an issue with the Gifs not playing, but nothing as extreme as what iam experiencing. I believe it may be something is preferences or a codec or something that was changed in the recent update. Any advice/ help would be great. Edit: OS is windows 10 latest updates Amd- Ryzen 7/32gig 3.20 ghz PC. So can handle a little bit of heavy browsing.. FF 128.14 esr Ext- Ublock Origin

Even with Addons disabled still occurs. Really at a loss here.

Frequently when I hibernate my laptop firefox prevents its (as soon as it enters sleep it wakes up)

when I close firefox it hibernates fine

when I go to powercfg /REQUESTS its the audio card that is driving the wake up

In settings I have turned media.video-wakelock. to FALSE etc and firefox still wakes the computer

Hello I am having major problems with Firefox at the moment and have done for a while. I curently have four pages open but as you can see from the attached screen shot of my Task Manager, there are 14 Firefox processes. The usage is OTT on memory and everything else. Could you tell me why this is happening? Currently it is running in Troubleshooting mode but that is not doing anything to improve the problem. It has been known to shut my computer down, as it gets too hot. I run on Windows 10 and Bitdefender is my security. All help is gratefully received. Thanks Lisa

What minimum memory spec is recommended for current Firefox usage? Have new computer with 16GB memory, 512 storage, intel core Ultra 5-225 processor & windows 11. Have not set it up yet.

I opened a new Firefox session (closed the previous one properly using the “Exit” option, without force-killing it) and had only 4 tabs open:

One YouTube video at 1080p One bookmaker site that may have a 240p video playing Two Flashscore tabs (static pages, no video)

When I end all firefox.exe processes, the Task Manager shows that about 10 GB of RAM is freed.

How can just four tabs be using that much memory? Please help me with this issue.

I am running Firefox on Windows 10 64-bit, and I have lots of windows and tabs open. Occasionally I will get a message from Windows that I am running low on disk space. Recently I got the message, and I saw on my C-drive" "336,044,032 bytes free". After I did an Exit in Firefox, I saw "10,082,402,304 bytes free". The space that was freed was in the pagefile.sys file. Is this normal?

My computer, being 7 years old (and without the space to upgrade to WIN11), has always been a bit slow with low RAM and storage. The swap from Chrome to Firefox essentially gave it a second life, as Firefox didn't need a lot of space to run. Recently, though, it locks up with almost every search, refusing to let me x out a tab and try to save myself for 3 minutes or more, and the bluescreens have come back, too. If chrome hasn't also gotten worse, I'm considering switching back. Does anyone know what happened? I haven't installed anything new.

It's really frustrating and disappointing, because I thought I had a solution when I swapped to Firefox.

Firefox is using about 15-20% of my CPU, with only one tab open. Running Firefox 141.0.3 (64-bit). I changed performance settings as suggested in support page; made no apparent difference. Ran Malwarebytes and McAfee scans; nothing detected. I have used Firefox for nearly 20 years, but if I cannot resolve this then I will drop Firefox and switch to another browser.

a black box appears over the search box when mouse is moved over the tab. Tried in safe and troubleshoot mode. Box still appears only in white I did find an answer previously but reinstalled firefox and the fix was lost. Problem resolved.

Hi, Please help with my issue: There are 2 Firefox browsers running on my Windows 10 desktop. How can I find one to delete it. My CPU is running very high in Task Manager. Thanks, I just can't find it and I desperately need to do so before my computer crashes! Many thanks any help you can offer is very much appreciated :)

When I use picture-in-picture for any video, all of my firefox browser windows go unresponsive. I can move the cursor around, but it won't allow me to click on anything. The only way to stop it is to open a brand new window which makes it responsive again and then close out of the PIP video. Sometimes it lets me go back to using the browser as normal, and other times it causes all firefox windows to crash. I'm using Windows 10. This issue only began happening about 10-ish days ago.

I have nothing but problems with firefox since the last new updates. Sites hang, gmail can't be accessed, it takes 100x longer for sites to load, firefox uses huge amounts of memory and CPU, etc, etc.

I am so fedup spending valued worktime having to solve firefox issues each time they decide to make updates - which seems to be more and more frequent. How can I roll back to a previous version and permanently disable any further updates?

Когда firefox зависает и windows предлагает его убить, firefox получает права системы и по этому становиться не убиваемым.Система не может его убить потому что у его права системы .В первые заметил этот баг когда сделал браузер firefox браузером по умолчанию.У меня сим роутер при запуске системы открывает браузер тут та браузер и зависает (не всегда ,но часто) в диспетчере задач в этот момент у его права системы.Писал в майрософт ,майкрософт посоветовал пользоваться нормальным браузером и сменить браузер по умолчанию .По совету майкрософт сменил браузер по умолчанию на chrome проблема пропала. Using Cloud applications via browser and my mail webbased I have Firefox installed. This browser was in my opinion always the better choice, but last months I experience strange behavior, cache issues, freezing pages, crashing tabs which is very annoying and frustrating when working in the cloud. In the same session it is possible that I suddenly can't open objects anymore or click on URL's, buttons not reacting or even can't login again, even when I just was logged in successfully. After refreshing and restarting the browser or sometimes even after restarting my device, everything is working properly again for a while. The same issues I have when using the incognito browser, especially when I use this for cloud application for example. I can't explain and my questions are: - anyone experiencing, familiar with and or know of this same kind of browser behavior and - if yes, how to solve this?
