Hopefully someone will pick this up? Since my Surface Pro updated to Windows 1909 everytime Firefox updates it causes problems with sound. This is whether I am watching video outside Firefox, watching You tube in Firefox or any video in Firefox.
Symptoms.
Watching video in external video player, not having opened Firefox since rebooting surface pro - no issues Open Firefox watch a couple of vids on YouTube and sound fails - try going back to watching videos outside Firefox, video still failed.
Cure- reload Windows.
New update for Firefox (yesterday) and problem re-appears again.
This happened a couple of years ago and I solved it then by deleting Firefox from my Surface Pro. After about 6 months I decided to give it another chance and all was good until after the 1909 update and Firefox updated. Reloaded Windows 1909 (clean copy) and all ok again until yesterday when Firefox updated again.
Guess I'm going to have to reload Windows again to cure the issue caused by Firefox, again.

My profile appears to be corrupted. Newly created bookmarks disappear when the session is ended and new one is started. If I create a new profile and copy the contents of the old one, the problems come with it. I've tried removing add-ons, but none seem to be the cause. Safe mode works, but that's not a long-term solution. I've reinstalled FF, but copying the profile brings the problems with it.
My latest attempt is to create a new profile and import bookmarks, creating a new places.sqlite file. I copied a variety of other files (prefs.js, extentions*, key3.db, key4.db) and so far everything still works.
There's one issue with extensions.json and extensions.sqlite. These point to the extensions directory of the old, corrupted profile. This works, but obviously is not desirable. It's easy to do a find/replace on the .json file, but without changing the the .sqlite file this breaks extensions. Fixing the .sqlite file is harder (at least for me), but do-able. Is that the right solution?
Or is there a better way to reconstruct a corrupted profile?

Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13.6
Here's the routine with FF on this machine: If FF 68.0.2 is running, after a while I will try to open a new tab and be told "Sorry we need to do one small thing to keep going, FF has been updated in the background, Restart FF" I do so. It opens up a new, clean profile in a new window (About FF now says 68.0.1 in this version of FF, and it downloads 68.0.2 and prompts to Restart FF (again)). At which point it runs "a new helper tool" and re-updates FF to 68.0.2. I then have to mess with about:profiles to go back to my profile. Things then run routinely for a few hours or a day, before the whole routine starts over again.
Alternately, if FF 68.0.2 is not running, if I open it (after opening and closing it several times without issue), I will get a message that "You've launched an older version of FF, Create New Profile or Quit". Create New Profile leads me through the routine above.
Versions of the above routine have happened not just between 68.0.2 and 68.0.1, but also between earlier version updates. That is, this has been going on for months. It does seem in the last couple of weeks that the interval of time has shortened and I'm having to do this routine everyday or even multiple times a day. I have no problems like this with FF on any other machine.
I've tried:
Trashing FF and re-dl'ing from Mozilla. No dice. Trashing FF, trashing Library/Cache/Mozilla and Firefox folders. No dice. Trashing FF, trashing Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles (and re-signing in to retrieve my existing bookmarks etc and re-setting up View and other Preferences). No dice.
If anyone has any ideas, I'll be grateful, thanks in advance.

Hello ! I'm using Firefox Developer (70.0b13, but happens on normal version too), and the Twitch streams lags when using resolution above 360p. When using the automatic quality, the stream starts at maximum quality. Then keeps dropping until 360p. Then the lag stops, but won't change back to max bandwidth possible quality. If I manually set the quality to 720 or 1080, the lag continues. Of course, I checked the internet and on another browsers (Brave and Edge Chromium). I can watch at 1080p without problems. I only have uBlock as extension installed. And this is happening for some time (more one week).
Any help is appreciated.

This issue has been around for years with no actual solution. I recently finally got around to disconnecting three of my devices (laptop, Samsung tablet and Samsung smartphone) from Firefox Sync in order to determine if the problem is sync-related. The bookmarks toolbar on my main device (another laptop) were still being randomly rearranged. I therefore disconnected this laptop from sync as well. The bookmarks toolbar has since been stable with no rearranging. This is telling me that this is a sync issue, not an issue with a corrupt places.sqlite file, an add-on/plug-in or hardware acceleration, as previously suggested by Mozilla, which was then marked as a solution. Sync has often been quite useful, but since I have my bookmarks (folders) arranged in alphabetical order on the toolbar for quick access and use them all frequently, I'd rather forego sync than deal with constant reordering of the bookmarks toolbar. I gather from what I've read that this problem also exists in the Google Chrome web browser. Even if the problem is a corrupted places.sqlite file, surely the sheer number of users experiencing the issue would suggest a bug or vulnerability with that file, irrespective of what add-ons are installed since the likelihood of all those users having the same add-on(s) installed is probably minimal. Surely it's about time Mozilla properly investigated (e.g. what add-on(s) is causing the issue, how the places.sqlite file can become corrupted, how sync is causing the problem, etc., etc. and disseminating the findings to users) and actually solved this issue instead of expecting users (the IT-savvy ones at least) to waste time doing their own futile troubleshooting. I really don't think that I should have had to disconnect from sync in order to "fix" this problem.

I have been using Firefox since it first came out and replaced the old Mozilla browser. When Firefox Sync first came out, I used it a few times and it messed up my bookmarks. As a result, I went back to manually syncing my bookmarks by exporting them on my primary computer and then deleting and importing them on my secondary computer. I recently tried Firefox sync again and it messed up my bookmarks again. The result was double the bookmarks and folders. I have a first set of bookmarks and folders that appear the be synced followed by a second set of bookmarks and empty folders. The second set follows the same order as the first set above starting with Bookmarks Toolbar, Other Bookmarks, Recently Bookmarked, Recently Tagged, and then a bunch empty folders. Also in the first set, many of my favicons are missing. What is going on and how can I fix this?

This has only been happening for about a week or so, but it seems to be getting gradually worse and worse to the point where I'm considering just using another browser. Basically what is happening is that whenever I'm using Firefox, it will very frequently stutter/lag. And by "frequently" I mean once every 2-4 seconds. This stutter hangs for about another 1-2 seconds before any inputs I attempted will suddenly and quickly catch up.
For instance, if I'm typing (like I'm doing with this description) it will regularly hang as I type for about a second or two. I can still type while it is hanging, but nothing will appear on the screen until it finishes its stutter, then it will suddenly just display everything that I typed.
-Important note: When I say "hangs" I don't mean in the tradition sense where the browser goes unresponsive. The browser does not freeze. In the case of me typing in a text box, the cursor still blinks as if it is waiting for input. If I'm watching a video, the video will continue to play, etc. What is "hanging" is literally my ability to input anything.
Another example: Scrolling. I'll attempt to scroll, then it will hang for a moment, then quickly jump to the location it 'should' have scrolled to.
This goes for literally any input. And Like I said before, it seems to be getting worse and worse gradually over time. It started as a negligible little hiccup that happened randomly. Then it got more frequent and more pronounced. Now I can't even type a full word without it lagging out. Just earlier I was watching a youtube video and tried to click my mouse to pause the video... but the video didn't pause for a full 3 seconds until after I clicked my mouse.
Things I have done so far:
- I made sure I was using the most recent version of Firefox (69.0)
- I downloaded chrome to test if that gave me the same issues. It did not. Everything worked super smoothly.
- I looked at the resources Firefox was using in task manager and Firefox uses about 530mb of memory, and hovers between 4-11% of CPU usage.
- I have already attempted a restore for Firefox, which did nothing to fix the issue.
- I've made sure my graphics drivers where up to date.
- I've disabled hardware acceleration in the settings.
I've been using Firefox for over 12 years now and I really don't want to switch browsers... but I don't know what else I can do.

Why is Firefox not writing a new file when I open or close a tab? Is there anything I can do right now do get diagnostics on this problem? I believe that tomorrow I may be installing Windows patches and have to reboot, and restarting Firefox will lose all diagnostic data. Thanks.

Could this note be referred please, to the FF programming manager? First my congrats on FF overall of course, to you and your many volunteers. But I notice a large philosophical programming problem which you might consider.
This problem mostly shows with multiple tabs open. Web servers certainly are slow, and many pages' Html etc poor. This all results in lots of delays such as reported during:
Waiting for () Read () Transferring data from () Performing a TLS handshake to () Connecting to ()
These display the moving "working" dot in the left of the affected tab title. And less often, "(not responding)" in FF's title bar, which eventually gets cleared automatically.
I have reviewed all 17 screens, and a number of the individual results, from today's FF forum search of:
169 results for (not responding) for Firefox
None address the lack of prioritized co-operative multi-tasking/ threading, DURING such delays as "Waiting for ()". During such a necessary wait, it is very slow at best, e.g. for a user to switch tabs. Even to one which is ready for display.
Responsiveness to user input should be the top multi-tasking priority. Tab switching. Rendering/ display of the foreground tab. Scrolling that down. Tab closing by user!, and "X" to STOP a page from loading -- give those user clicks priority. Let's not have to wait 10 seconds for a right-click to open its option box. Let the other busy tabs finish up their work, overlapped in the background priority-wise.
This could be done now, but perhaps it would be difficult for volunteer programmers. Worse case might require a custom replacement, for the effective TCP part of the default vanilla TCP/IP stack. However I suspect a lot could be fixed short of that, with the correct management encouragement and guidelines. At least if the continuous motion of the "busy dot" indicator in the tab title is a task, just change that to something like just gray-ed out while busy.
My experience is with much headroom: CPU (50%), memory, disk, and network bandwidth, per Task Manager. NO McAfee. Mainly just ZoneAlarm taking 30% of that CPU 50% usage. This is not a problem with start-up delay. And delays within only one open tab are necessary, of course. Cheers

I am running macOS Catalina Beta and on the latest update, Firefox refuses to open. Every time I attempt to open the window comes up but as soon as I click on it or try to interact with it in any way, it crashes. I tried fully deleting Firefox, as well as deleting the profiles as well, with no luck. I know this may be an issue with the macOS not Firefox, but wanted to see if there were any suggestions you may have. This happens with all versions of Firefox (Beta, Developer Edition, etc).
