The last 2 days when I have shut down my computer then restarted, my Firefox profile has disappeared, along with all my bookmarks, passwords etc. I spent several hours yesterday following all the advice here to get everything back, but nothing worked. I had to create a new profile and then import an old passwords file, which I luckily had saved in Excel. This morning when I switched the computer on, the same thing has happened. I cannot even open Firefox without creating a new profile. I get a pop up box (screenshot attached), which shows no profiles, and i have to create a new one to even open Firefox. Every time I close out of Firefox and want to go back in, I am asked to choose a profile. This has never happened before.Before i give up forever on Firefox and go over to another browser, do you have any ideas how i can stop this from happening, and get my original profile, passwords, bookmarks etc back? Thanks.

This afternoon, I clicked on a link from an email and for the first time got a choose a profile pop-up. I do not want this; I have read info on Mozilla and elsewhere about its purpose but it doesn't say how to just stop the pop-up - there should be an option just stop the pop-up because I don;t want to have to choose amongst options. I have started copy-pasting the links in emails and going to Chrome and will seriously have to reconsider using Firefox of this continues. I don't want to have to type about:config or anything - this should have been an opt out or opt in thing and I want out. Thank you for your help.

It has been two times now where I will open firefox and suddenly all my profiles are gone. I have tried everything to try to get them back like trying to get "old firefox data" back or about:profiles, but there is literally nothing to recover. All of my bookmarks and passwords are fine but I have to log in to everything all over again and reset my home page with all my shortcuts. it is extremely annoying, especially when I use up all the shortcut spaces. It prompts me when I start firefox to create a profile, sign in again, and set firefox as my preferred browser. I have been using firefox for about a year and havent had this problem until a couple of weeks ago. What can i do to avoid having to do this again in the future?

I have moved my profile to a different location on the hard drive to make backups easier. How do I tell firefox where the profile is now located. c:\users\med\my data\PROFILES\mozillA\*.deFAUlt

opened firefox saturday and screen was totally different than what i had. guess it updated, but not returned to my profile. have tried to open my profile and succeeded, but can't get it to come on automatically when i open firefox again. how do i open the profile i want and then keep it opened?

A pop-up suggested that I use profiles to organize and it sounded like a great idea but then after making profile I was having trouble getting tabs from one page to another. Then I discovered that I had to log in my accounts onto every profile I made and it sounded like a terrible idea, so I tried deleting all my profiles to get it to revert but now that I open the browser it shows me to make a new Profile. So, I want to know how can I revert back to using Firefox Without the use of profiles like I was before clicking the pop-up

In the middle of a browsing session I needed to consult my substantial browsing history and found it to be gone. I quit FF using the dropdown and restarted. After restarting FF the browsing history showed only that session and the TST sidebar with many tabs didn't display so I concluded FF created a new profile for startup but using my home page. I have the profile in use at the time (profile_a) and a month old backup of it. profile_a seems to have all the expected data and the bookmarks are correct. I've hacked around within Profile Groups and profiles.ini but FF refuses to use profile_a in spite of my edits, and worse is silent about it so I'm stuck and need help.

Possible related issue: is TST sensitive to the number of tabs? I'm a hoarder and find TST easier to use than bookmarks so had about 700 tabs stashed in TST.

New OS LMDE7 (trixie debian 13 base) Installed Firefox from the Mozilla Firefox Debian Package mozilla-debian- 1.0 Firefox 148.0

I've just installed LMDE7 alongside LMDE6 and want to move the 6 profile into 7. I've exported the 6 profile into backup and then moved it into the new Firefox Home folder (\home\...\.config\mozilla\firefox) Found both profile.in and installs.ini there AND many different profiles. (I had tried to use the profile manager and seem to have created lots of profiles beside the default-release from 7. Installs.ini shows both the original profile from the 7 install and one created with the Profile Manager and both are locked. They are also in profile.ini as installed.

So my Question is how do I install the old profile into profile.ini?

I believe Firefox invited me to add another partition to my Firefox system I do not like it, finding it interferes with my normal operation of daily events and also transfers unasked from my primary partition making, for instance emails l seeking a reply.

It induced me to create a new profile. Then, I lost the old one. Who even knew about profiles? Firefox is now filling in passwords, among other serious setting changes I did not make. This is the worst experience I ever had with a browser. Firefox has been my steady for decades, always dependable and easy to manage. I think we broke up today.

I don't know if it was a glitch in a recent update or something else, but every time I close a Firefox browser and then open a new one, it takes me through setting up Firefox EVERY time and changes my toolbar setting and erases my extensions. HELP!

My toolbar disappeared in January very disappointed because I don't want to take my computer to the fix it man here in town when It was not something I did but rather came with an update.

I have a question about deleting a Firefox profile. When I access the profile screen via "about:profiles," I see two profiles: "default-release" and "Default User." The "default-release" profile is fine because it displays the message "This is the active profile and cannot be deleted." But is it okay to delete the "Default User" profile? Should I also delete the files in the root directory of the C: drive and the local directory? If I delete the "Default User", will it be deleted as well?

While transferring data from the old profile manager system to the new one, I accidentally created one more profile than I needed. I have tried to delete the extra profile on multiple occasions, it won't go away. I have attempted to delete it through the profile management ui, and I went into the files and delete the associated data. On both occasions, the profile remained in the UI. I am unable to edit anything about the profile either. Is there anything I can do to resolve this annoyance?

Mozilla made an update of my Firefox installation on my Win11 laptop. all my password disappeared as well as my history and bookmarks.

I have now a virgin installation and is starting from scratch.

Now I get this error message: "This profile was last used with a newer version of this application. Please create a new profile." I deleted met shortcut and I opened Firefox by using Windows search. Now I see 4 profiles! I think I do not need to create a new profile. Maybe delete 3 of them ? What to do ? And, how?
