Can't add names to addressbook
I used for years Thunderbird addressbook, but about month ago I can't add names anymore. And I don't understand why or where is problem.

I have added multiple email accounts to Thunderbird numerous times. Tonight I added one with no problem. However, I tried to add another account and it would not take. That it, the semi-automatic set up screen failed to add the new account. I rechecked all settings many times and they were perfect. Yet Thunderbird won't let me add the account.
As a test I tried to add the account to the Windows 10 built-in email client. It worked flawlessly with the same settings I tried to use with Thunderbird.
This is driving me crazy. I really wish Thunderbird had a pure manual email account setup routine. I really don't like the automatic system of adding an account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I did an update to TB 60.5.1 at the same time as I changed mail-provider. Tried to restore my old emails etc via the old MozBackup-program but this time it didn't work well. (It's been doing the job for me for many years ;-) but I guess it's getting to old now...) Instead I must move folders from my old account to the new account manually to get the structure I'm familiar with. So which folders should I move? (Running Win 10 on PC.) Had a similar question some 10 years ago and got very good help. Regards Henrik

This bug report is irrelevant, as there is no such option in Thunderbird.
Also, all of the addon's that do it aren't compatible with Thunderbird 60.3.2 32 bit.

This is a Feb. 14 update. I've been using Thunderbird email without problem for about a year. I get an error message whenever I try to send emails. My server (Comcast) settings hadn't been changed. I marked Matt's reply as helpful.
I took Matt's advice I spoke with Comcast... various people and support tiers... for an entire day. They suggested some port changes in imap.comcast.net (port 993) and smtp.comcast.net (port 587) -- both SSL/TLS. Then they said there was nothing else to do on their side and to use their webmail or call Mozilla.
I'm still not able to SEND messages from Thunderbird (although I can from Comcast's webmail), and both Comcast and Thunderbird seem to agree that they can work together, so I'm editing my question and adding the current error message I receive when I try to send an email from Thunderbird. (image 2) btw. I'm using T-bird version 60.5.0. (32-bit) Arggghh. I can't upload image 2 -- the original (deleted from my desktop one) reappears. So I will write out what it says: "(Title) Send message error. (Body) Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net timed out. Try again."
I've tried again many times over several days but above message (in quotes) always reappears.
Note. I've deleted original message from this post and from my pc desktop, so if it appears again, please ignore it.

If I enter the date in the search-field (ctrl-k) Thunderbird finds all mails with the text "2019" in and not the exact string ("20.02.2019"). Any idea?

I've started using Thunderbird a month ago to replace Outlook. All seems to evolve well for this application, with just a couple of bugs to solve as far as I could experience. I'm on Windows 10 Pro latest version, clearly on a pc, not a mac...
1. With the new Beta installed yesterday, I can't drag emails or attachments to my desktop or other location on my disk... When dragging and releasing an email or attachment, it looks like it is indeed taking the file, but upon releasing, nothing happens...
2. In previous Betas and this newest one too, I always get two hypens automatically placed in front of my signature when I create a new message... It's not something that is in my signature, and when Replying to a message, those hyphens are not inserted, so I'm certain this is a but somewhere. It happens with any of the signatures I use. Attached is a screenshot of how that looks.
3. I have downloaded and installad three extra dictonnaries, but none of them are available when I check the Options > Spelling > Language drop down... This was a problem in previous betas too, I never had this working since I became a Thunderbird user last month, and it very critical this works since I'm in Europe...
Will be glad to further help with getting the best mail app out there.

Why is the calendar so big if you can't use 7/8 of the space allotted for each day? Have tried everything I know, even this forum once before, all to no avail. More problems on the mail side but I want solve this to decide if I'm going to continue to use Thunderbird. Thanks for your time.

Since upgrade to Thunderbird Version 60.5.0, all Microsoft Attachments (xlsx, ppt, docx, vsdx) open with a "corrupt file" and then repair which eventually open except for Visio which seem completely corrupt. If I use company webmail or even Outlook, the same files open fie from those clients. On forum one possible solution is to download and install https://taskcluster-artifacts.net/AcRd5mSOROO3yWDvEyrmSQ/0/public/build/install/sea/target.installer.exe, but I'm not allowed to install this per company rules due to no authenticated certificate. Warning on install states "this file does not have a digital signature which verifies publisher".
Should I uninstall and revert back to an earlier version or will this be fixed soon without users having to do workarounds on their own?

Thunderbird 60.5.0. I can reproduce this issue on: Windows 7, Windows 10, Osx 10.x.
I've already checked antivirus and os configuration. Nothing seems to fix.
During the forward I've noticed that the attachament size it smaller than the original file size.

I have 3 aol email accounts and only one of them is no longer letting me access my mail after receiving the dreaded imap error message -- Imap server failed to connect. This has been going on for the past few days. I have tried the following several times with very little luck.
1) Allow TB through both Avast & Windows Firewall. 2) Remove and re-add affected account. 3) Update Thunderbird. 4) Downgrade Thunderbird. 5) Create new TB profile. 6) Set less secure app settings in Google to on. 7) Set account config to Normal Password from OAuth2. 8) Set account config to OAuth2. 9) Set Ports to every possible combination.
I can no longer add my affected account due to the following message during configuration - "Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?" This started happening after removing my account for the 2nd time. My username are password are both correct! I have not changed either! There is absolutely wrong with this one AOL account since I can access it through the web. What is going on with TB?! I need to be able to use TB with this particular account since it's the main AOL account I use the most.

I would like to change the color or font of some names in my address book, and have that color or font show in the TO entry when I compose an email. The changed color or font would not appear in the email when it is sent, only when I am composing the email. I would like to have this because as I type the start of an email address in the TO box, several choices appear, and a few times I have accidentally clicked the wrong choice and sent the email to the wrong person. If I differentiated email addresses, say one color for family members, another for friends, a third for colleagues, etc., I would be less likely to make this mistake. I have set up Thunderbird so that for selected email addresses the sender and subject are in a different color on the main page that shows received email. But I haven't found a way to have different font colors for the recipient address when composing email. Is there a way to do this?

In Thunderbird, Address Book, I selected Tools and Export and saved my Personal Address Book as a LDIF file. I went to my new computer and opened the Address Book in Thunderbird, highlighted the folder Personal Address Book (default) and clicked on Tools, Import. The old Personal Address Book didn't import into the default Personal Address Book on the new computer but instead a new address book called Personal Address Book was created. How do I get my old Personal Address Book to be in the default Personal Address Book and not in a second Personal Address Book? As the original (empty) Personal Address Book on the new computer is the default it can't be deleted so I can just delete it and keep the new one.

I can retrieve gmail using Thunderbird just fine. It is set to leave email on the server, which it does. After I retrieve email using Thunderbird I can still access the email using gmail, however mail will no longer appear on any other device (iPhone, etc.) that I check email on.
It seems that checking email on Thunderbird keeps any new email from appearing on any other device - even though it is not deleting the email from the gmail server since I can always see the email using gmail.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
