I am running Windows 10 and Thunderbird version 60.3.3

I recently ran into problems where it looked like Thunderbird was starting up brand new with no accounts, no local folders etc. I followed directions and found the problem was with the prefs.js file that was missing some lines. I was able to find a recent backup that was only a few days old, and I copied that version of prefs.js into the profile folder. This recovered my account access along with the local folders and personal folders - or so I thought.

However today I noticed that one subfolder and its subfolders were not in the folder structure on the left side when Thunderbird is opened. Again I followed directions, went to help / troubleshooting information and clicked on "Open folder" I keep this folder on a secondary hard disk because it is huge (about 10 Gb). I closed Thunderbird and checked this folder: F:\Thunderbird_Profile\Mail\Local Folders\Personal Folders.sbd The email folder I want is in personal folders / SEA / Substitutes and it has many subfolders and a couple of levels. In Personal Folders.spd there are folders SEA.mozmsgs and SEA.sbd. SEA.mozmsgs appears to contain email files. SEA.sbd appears to contain the folder structure with emails for subfolders. This includes subfolders Substitutes.spd and Substitutes.mozmsgs Within Substitutes.spd there appears to be the correct folder structure.

Yet these folders do not show up when I run Thunderbird. I also noticed that recent emails (probably several hundred) in the Substitutes.mozmsgs appear to be missing

If this happened to the Substitutes subfolder, maybe it happened to other subfolders too that I haven't accessed recently. Without looking at every single branch on the folder structure I'd like to know if there's a way to do some sort of systematic repair.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to fix a crash issue for my neighbours TB installation. Everytime (at least that's what I was able to reproduce) he fetches new mails from his accounts, TB crashes. After restarting it, new mail is available.

First thing I did was to update to latest "release" 60.4.0. Afterwards I tried in safe mode with disabled extensions.

As I am pretty much unaware of Thunderbird I am not really sure what to check in this case

It was created with the older version as I just sent it via mail and the recent crash report went missing somewhere between two floors. I will update the thread as soon as I have the link for the new one. Nevertheless the symptoms are the same.

work around to get lightning into the latest release

Hello, Thunderbird doesn't open anymore on my MacBook pro (OS X Yosemite 10.10.5) since yesterday. It still appears on the dock and in the applications folder but not with the right icon - there is a generic icon instead. When I try to open it, the message "You can't open the application Thunderbird because it may be damaged or incomplete". Something puzzling is that I can't see the folder Thunderbird in the Library folder either. Does it mean I lost emails that were stored locally as well as my profile? I ran disk utility which prompted to disk repair since it found something wrong in the catalogue (I don't know whether that was related to Thunderbird). But the problem with Thunderbird was still there after the repair and the reboot... Thanks for your help and advice. Stephane

Hello,

I'm having a problem since I updated to Thunderbird version 60.3.2 with the emotion icons. If I add an emotion icon at the end of a sentence and then use the enter key to start a new paragraph, the emotion icon get copied to the beginning of the the new paragraph sentence. By using the delete key I can delete it, but as soon as I hit the enter key to start a new paragraph the emotion icon is inserted. I've not found a way to stop it from doing this other that stop using the emotion icons and just use the old type key icons. Any help to solve this problem will be Greatly Appreciated. I'm using an iMac with macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra, 1TB HD, and 32GB Ram. Never had this problem until I update to Thunderbird to 60.3.2. Oh, and my wife's mac book pro running the same OS has the same problem with the emotion icons.

Since updating to 60.3.2, thunderbird can't keep the focus in the topic list. For every topic, I have to select it twice.

Also, if I want to select all the topics, Ctrl-A used to work, not any more. It seems I have to select a list element twice to actually select it. If I select a message and hit DEL, it ignores the keystroke. However, if I select a topic, then click it again, the DEL key will work.

None of this was happening previous to the last update.

I am running 64-bit Windows 10 Pro ,version 1511. I had been running Thunderbird 52.9.1 without any problems whatsoever. A few days ago, Thunderbird upgraded to 60.3.1. Thunderbird became unstable and unusable immediately upon start. Taskbar and Process Explorer showed that the program was running, but the window would not stay open or even stay stable.

I was able to use System Restore to revert to the previous version of Thunderbird, and although the calendar functionality is gone, it seems to work fine.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using Thunderbird for a long time on this computer now and it has always worked like a charm. However, since the latest update I am unable to view my emails as the main window is mostly invisible.

When I start Thunderbird, I can see how it builds the window quickly, displaying one component after another but immediately removing them again afterwards. After this process is over, the window is completely invisible and I only see a small, blue loading circle in the top left of the screen. Clicking on the Thunderbird icon in the taskbar has no effect. Sometimes single, seemingly random elements of the GUI remain visible (like for example single rows of my inbox or the "File" button in the menu bar) but disappear as soon as I point my cursor at them. It is hard to make screenshots of this phenomenon, I would probably have to provide a screen recording from when I start Thunderbird to properly showcase what the problem is. Interestingly I am sometimes able to click onto the menubar options (File, View, ...) and use the context menu, through this I was able to open my address book which functions without any problems.

I feel like the program itself is starting and working as intended, however, the GUI isn't displayed correctly. As I haven't changed any settings in the last days I don't know what causes the problem. Google searches regarding the latest Thunderbird version and known GUI bugs didn't yield any results either.

I use Windows 10 and should be on the latest version of Thunderbird. Any help is very much appreciated!

This afternoon when I turned on my computer, I had no internet connection. After following Charter/Spectrum's instructions, I got connected, and downloaded my emails. I got them fine, but when I try to reply or send a new email, I get the following error message:

An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: impout002 charter.net MTM3LjI1LjMyLjgy You must connect from Charter IP space. E1110.

I have changed nothing in my email settings. I have the correct STMP setting (smtp.charter.net) on the outgoing server for my Charter email address. If I log into spectrum.net and use the email utility there, I can send and receive emails just fine. It's only from Thunderbird that I can't send emails and receive that error message.

I also use Thunderbird for my gmail account, but I think that uses stmp.googlemail.com (although stmp.charter.net is the default). I can reply to or send new emails out via gmail using Thunderbird with no problem.

I've rebooted the computer, but that hasn't resolved anything. Spectrum says that because I can send emails via their site, they can't help.

I'm really hoping someone here can, however (help, that is...)! Thanks in advance.

I have set the maximum size for messages. When a large email is received the following message appears: "This message exceeded the Maximum Message Size set in Account Settings, so we have only downloaded the first few lines from the mail server." When I click on "Download the rest of the message" nothing happens. I have tried this in Thunderbird Safe Mode - same result. Any clues?

I tried to use Toolbar Buttons (1.1.1) add-on on Thunderbird 60.3.0 (32 bit) Windows 10 Pro today, and the add-on pop-up covered part of the mail panel but the pop-up was incomplete and there was no way to close it. I had to use task manager to end-task Thunderbird. I reinstalled Toolbar Buttons (shows as compatible with TB 60.3.0) and tried again. Same problem. I have disabled Toolbar Buttons.

Recently Thunderbird crashes every time it receives an email. I have five accounts (yahoo, google, and several with 1and1). If there are 12 emails via google and yahoo it crashes twice and is then fine. If there is only one email from one account then it crashes only once. It runs normally until it checks the accounts again, if there is an email to retrieve, it crashes. The emails are recived safely; they are delivered but the act of checking seems to cause the crash. This is a problem only on this computer. Other machines seem to be fine but I haven't checked fully yet.

This is a problem on my father's computer. I'm a computer tech, he is not. On MY computer, I haven't had this problem with Thunderbird 60, even though I also use Gmail (as well as other e-mail providers).

Immediately after Thunderbird updated itself to version 60, it would crash within 1-2 seconds of Thunderbird starting.

Troubleshooting: - Rebooted computer several times. - Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.

Still crashes.

I created a new Thunderbird Profile and set up his Gmail address using OAuth2. Successfully receiving e-mails with no crashes.

I exported his address books and calendars from the old profile, and imported into the new profile. Copied the Local Folders files manually from the old profile to the new. Got all the Thunderbird settings the way he likes. No crashes.

An hour later, Thunderbird starts crashing again. Now it only crashes when a new e-mail comes in.

Troubleshooting: - Rebooted computer. - Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode. - Disabled filters.

Still crashing.

Submitted Thunderbird Crash Report with details and my father's e-mail address, which I will not put here in this public forum.

I upgraded to Thunderbird 60 this morning.

Since then I am having problems whenever I try to reply to a message. Thunderbird shows the pop-up saying the script with chrome://enigmail/content/enigmailMsgComposeOverlay.js:2869 is having problems.

If I click on wait I keep getting the message over and over again. If I stop the script menu actions like Send or Save don't work anymore. Sometimes Thunderbird crashes.

I am on a Windows 10 computer.

I have 2 gmail accounts - one for personal use and one for a charity that I'm involved in running - and I access both via Thunderbird. To make sure that I don't overlook any messages that come into my charity inbox, I have linked the latter to my personal inbox. My problem is that, when I go into my charity account to write an e-mail, multiple copies of the message appear in the inbox of my personal account while I am in the middle of composing it. When I go into my personal inbox, I have to keep on deleting these "drafts". It's a minor annoyance but, if I can get rid of it, I'd like to do so. Any advice gratefully received. (P.S. I'm afraid that I am not very good with computers, so simple language would be appropriate: I really am pretty clueless.)
