After I updated to 68.9.0 Now when I double click on an email message in thunderbird inbox. It will open as if I selected "edit as new". instead of just reading the full email in a new window? Driving me nuts, any ideas?

(Double clicking a message opens it in standalone window with the standard "reply," "reply all" and "forward" buttons.)

I made a complete backup of Mozilla Thunderbird back in February, before I installed Windows 10 replacing Windows 7. I was able to reinstall all my mail from the backup after Windows 10 installation. An OS corruption forced me to wipe out my newly installed Windows 10, reinstall it, and start fresh with Mozilla Thunderbird. I cannot find a way to import my mail to my new Thunderbird. I'd appreciate any help you can provide me. Thanks in advance.

Firefox update check can't talk to the mothership (likely)

I run Firefox on a number of systems and two of my work computers seem to be unable to check in with the Firefox update servers to get updates. See image for the exact error message.

"Firefox can't update to the latest version. Download a fresh copy of Firefox and we'll help you to install it."

My suspicion is my network team is blocking my browsers from getting to the Firefox update servers but I don't know how to test it. One of my browsers is 77.0, the other is 77.0.1. Both of them give me the error in the image. Both of them insist I'm on the latest version of Firefox when I use 'Help/About Firefox' to check.

If anyone knows what data I should collect to get this figured out I'd appreciate it.

My PC with Thunderbird installed and running shut down suddenly as a result of a fire on the motherboard. I was able to recover the hard drive and copy most of my files etc to a new machine. I followed the instructions for transferring the thunderbird profiles from the hard disc to my new machine.

Although the transferred profiles on the new machine appear to contain folders and emails, they will not load into the programme and the thunderbird display remains devoid of any user data. I then tried to do the transfer using MosBackup. This told me that the profile was damaged.

I know that migration should take place with thunderbird shut down, but unfortunately the shut down of the old machine was sudden and catastrophic and did not shut down thunderbird in a planned way.

Please can anyone help.

I have installed Windows 10 in a new partition,and one of the last things I have to do is to get Thunderbird profiles set. I have not yet set up Thunderbird, so I have in Appdata\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles:

    qaqkee8x.default
    v73kxnlg.default-release

My profile in Windows 7 is qf00ka5x.default . In the Profiles directory I renamed the default profile by appending "-old". Ten I copied (via xcopy) the qf00ka5x.default directory from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Now I have in the Profiles directory:

When I start Thunderbird with -P, I see two profiles in the "Choose User Profile" pop-up window:

    default-release
    default

If I click on "default-release", Thunderbird opens and asks me to set up the account. If I click "default", then I get a pop-up window with the error message, "Your Thunderbird Profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

Four related questions: 1) Why are there only two profiles listed in the "Choose" window, when I have three profiles there? Is it because I have appended "-old" to one profile name?

2) When I click on "default", which profile is being loaded and failing? Is it my qf profile or the "-old" profile? If it is my qf profile, how can I determine what is wrong with that profile?

3) I also have profiles in Appdata\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles. I did copy my Local qf files from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but I am not sure what is the purpose of this Local Profiles directory.

4) Until I get this problem resolved, can I go back to Windows 7, run Thunderbird, and auto-synch my qf profile between Windows 7 and Windows 10?

This is Thunderbird 68.9.0 .

Tried to download and install the Firefox browser, 64 bit. While processing, said "cannot continue, cannot find VCRUNTIME140_1.dll. I know that I did remove the Visual C re-distributable file or from the windows system but have been trying to re-install. Downloaded and executed visual c, to no effect, did not re-install the driver or whatever Firefox is looking for during the install. At a total loss on how to re-instate the VCRUNTIME140_1.DLL so that I can use Firefox, HELP!!! P.S. the help provided on-line tells one how to re-install the driver but so "poluted" with other programs wanting you to download their programs that impossible to find the correct tools to use. Anyway, your help will be appreciated. I do like Firefox and have been enticed to use Microsoft Ecge but do not want to if I can help!

Can I use a thumbdrive to save space on the hard drive? I'd be willing to move everything, but I am thinking (and asking) how about saving just the stuff I have placed into local folders? I'd go to the extreme by installing Thunderbird onto my thumbdrive and migrating everything to the thumbdrive. I'd then be okay with using the thumbdrive each time I wanted to interact with Thunderbird AND my email(s). I just do not know what to do with all my saved emails. To save space, I really don't want to simply delete emails I've saved for years.

i am trying to transfer my emails and accounts from a windows 7 computer to a new windows 10 computer and have followed all the instructions but when i start thunderbird on the new computer none of my accounts are there it just looks like a new installation. When I click on the thunderbird folder within the roaming folder there is another folder named thunderbird within. Should there be? This is driving me potty please help Thank you in advance Paul

I've installed Tbird 68.9 and the Import/Export NG Add-In, but when I go to import my old local folders from my previous Live Mail client, the option to Import Messages is grayed out - not active. They're all in individual folders on my Win 10 PC. How do I get it to import them?

I have read and followed the HELP suggestions on here for moving my Thunderbird files to my new computer, but it isn't working.

I store my Thunderbird data files (meaning the actual e-mails/mailbox folders) in a separate directory on my C drive. I copied over all the profile folders as per the online instructions (locating the profile path on my computer, then copying all the Thunderbird folders under "roaming" in that path and then installing Thunderbird on the new computer, locating the new profile path there, and copying all the folders into the "roaming" folder on the new computer).

I also tried copying the data files into the new Thunderbird folder on the new computer roaming path, but that did not work. When I run Thunderbird, it just asks me to set up an account.

I somehow need to incorporate my data files into the new profile path but can't figure out how to do that.

Can anyone help? Thank you so much!

I've encountered my fair share of bugs. I'm also disabled, so I need a lot of safety and accessibility fixes to use any browser.

Debugging advice often involves ""safe" mode," which disables some safety and accessibility tools, or "refresh Firefox," or otherwise using new profiles, which require me to set up the safety and accessibility tools before I can do anything. (For example, by default Firefox uses blinking cursors, autoscroll, and smooth scrolling, all of which trigger my migraines.)

In the past I've sometimes copied specific items, or cleared out a new profile folder and copied everything from an already-set-up profile folder.

Are there better or worse ways to copy bookmarks, saved passwords, about:config settings, user css, add-ons, and add-on settings?

(The previous time I asked this, I somehow got diverted to the wrong forum.)

hello all,

I have a customer that had all his data transferred from one tower to another, and the person that transferred the data just did a drag and drop of icons. and the result from his email data was 100 DBX files, which I now understand to be folders from Outlook Exchange: https://fileinfo.com/extension/dbx

My question is: is there anyway to get this folder data into Thunderbird? I thought I would ask you guys first before looking this up because it is fairly unique. I don't work with exchange, but I've done plenty of work with MS's Outlook and throwing all the data together and exporting it to a PST account file. Any thoughts folks?

I have a contract with Namesco. They recently asked me to change my e-mail address. I agreed.

I had already announced the change to a number of my e-mail addresses, but hadn't done all.

On the night of the disconnection of the old e-mail address all e-mails in my inbox, which I had received since 01/01/20 (about 18000), became empty. The announcement of the incoming addresses remains, but when I open them there is no content. I still have content for previous years (e.g. 2019). No problem there.

My question is: I have back ups (time machine as well as others); how do I retrieve the original e-mails from my back ups - if at all possible?

I haven't contacted Namesco yet. I would like to know first whether my backups help.
