For a week, I have not been able to send any emails through Thunderbird.
This is the only day that I have been able to delve further into the problem.
If I send an email, this is the response that I get after sending. Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.
I have contacted my main provider and they have been useless. I contacted my secondary provider and they sent me what the settings should be. I checked their info against mine and everything is correct.
I prefer Mozilla products over all others and I wish to get this corrected sooner later, I have two assignments to send over the weekend.
I would rather being doing something else that trying to figure out this problem.
I should be celebrating or mourning the passing of my wife 3 years ago, than trying to figure out what is wrong.
One thing I did do was to go to the Mozilla website and download Thunderbird again in case there was a conflict somewhere in the system.

Just installed latest Thunderbird version 128.5.2. Previously using a very old 78.5 version for many years. I now have a row of buttons on the toolbar at the very top. The first button is "Get Messages." When I first open Thunderbird and click that button, nothing happens. If I right click that button I see two options. One is to "Get All New Messages" and the other is the name of my only account. If I click the "Get All New Messages" option, it still does not work. If I click the name of my account, it proceeds to asks for my password and look for new messages. There is also a small button that looks like a cloud with a down arrow below Menu Bar under the word File. That is also used to Get Messages. When I click that button after first opening Thunderbird, it works. It asks for my password and looks for new messages. The odd thing is this. After I get it to work the first time and I type in my password and it look for new messages, then the "Get Messages" button at the top that did not work at first now works. So when first open Thunderbird that button does not work to do the first check for new mail. After using the cloud icon the do the first check when first opening Thunderbird, then the larger button at the top works. Anyone know why it works this way? Thanks, Tim

Mail arrives in the Spam folder. It is not spam. I click on Mark and click on It is not Junk. Messages move to inbox. Perfect. Now why are later emails with same email address again sent to the spam folder? Once an email is declared as not junk/spam, it should be cleared to go to the inbox. Recently, the Thunderbird email product quit working propertly. It requires me to log into the account each time I wish to open an email. This has been happening for the last week to 10 days. I have to reenter my password each time. Example, I open an email after logging in for the whatever many times it has been during the day, and I need to answer the email but need to get some information first. I go get the information and the email program requies me to log in again, even if it has been just a few minutes. This has not happened in the past. I have been using Thunderbird for a very long time, many many years and never had this happen before. I loaded the program on my laptop that I use when I travel or am not at home. Same thing happens with it.
This is highly frustrating and time wasting to have to do that. There is nothing I have found that shows me how to address this. My phone has a different email program and that does not happen when using the phone. And like I said, I have been using this email program for a very long time and have not experienced this in the past.
Is there access to a user's manual or some quick guide to help me with this? I am not a tech newby, but I'm not an IT professional either, which was why I choose using Thunderbird many years ago. It seemed user friendly at that time.

Not sure when it changed but I remember being able to add a new email address when creating a new email by opening the address book and dragging. There may have also been the ability to right click on the address in the new email or from an email in the Sent folder and 'add to contacts or list'. Not sure of the wording.
Has something changed? I can seem to accomplish this without copying the email address then opening the address book and adding it manually to my contacts. Even when the contacts side bars is opened in the new mail window with F9 you can only select from existing, not add to the contacts from the TO: address.

I've been using T-bird for a couple of years without a problem. A couple of months ago, T-bird started sending me error messages and no longer sent outgoing mail. I checked with Spectrum (my main mail provider for email: mad1doc@twcny.rr.com) and it looks like all my settings are correct. I have 2 other Gmail accounts and they both work perfectly. I'm including a screenshot of the most recent error message / server refusal. What do I have to do to fix my RR email account?

I was advised to change from Pop to Imap I have 3 gmail accounts, & all 3 now have Imap in brackets after the name. 2 are no problem but my main default account has two occurrences, the Imap one I can open with no problem but every time I open Thunderbird this message pops up " The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server imap.gmail.com responded:[SYS/PERM] Your account is not enabled for Pop access. Please visit your gmail settings and enable your account for Pop access". Is there anyway I can sort this out, or do I just ignore it? Please don't be too technical I am 81 & struggling with technology!

This is the message; Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtphm.sympatico.ca timed out. Try again.
Signature text does not automatically "return" so that it extends to the right beyond the document boundaries.
