Hi, Just got computer back from shop where - rather than upgrade - they did a clean install of Win11. I was under the impression from them they'd backup everything on a new "backup" drive they installed to double my capacity as part of the upgrade process.

They're version of backing up Thunderbird left me with a folder "Thunderbird_profile_backup.zip" that is 9,698,657kb in size.

I am attempting to install Thunderbird on the essentially new computer and restore all data from the previous installation.

Is this even possible anymore at this point?

I have data in that file that is important not only financially but archived family info from now deceased members... I'd really like to recover it.

I have noticed a difference in behavior (for some time now, but I haven't noted exactly which version: first half of the year) in the alert for tasks that are “oudated” but not “completed.”

On ESR, an outdated task continues to sound at the launch or from time to time. On release, an outdated task no longer sounds (it remains green in the list, but that's all). And we are no longer notified if we don't go and check.

I don't know if this behavior is intentional or if it's a bug, but personally I switched to ESR because it's too problematic for me to no longer have alerts on overdue tasks.

How do I export all my emails from Thunderbird to my local HDD?

I know there are a few different methods but which is the best option for me?

I have 21GB of Emails on my Yahoo Mail and I want to download them to my local HDD. Check the attached screenshot.

What is the best option if I want to download everything?

When I have a complete backup of the entire thing I plan to delete them from my Yahoo Mail to clean up some space.

Could you please tell me how to how to add existing mail account to Thunderbird? I could not find "existing mail account" in the [new] which is [file] in the top Bar. Also, there is no "Add mail account" button.

App version is latest one. waiting for your reply.

I keep getting a pop up when opening my mail that reads, "The folder on inbox (then gives my email address) could not be compacted because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space and that you have write privileges to the file system and then try again".

I don't understand!!!

TBird maul ott corrupted. There are a qty of folders in the mail folder with similarr names. Can someone please tell what folders s/b there? Also have 5 TBird Local plus subfolders in my main mallboxo - how do I remove those?

Have tried and uninstalling to get a clean install - it doesn't work!

I just added a new email server to handle my mail. It is a local hosting company that I use. I already have another email address with them. When I added the new account I noticed that the Sent and Drafts folders were missing under the 'Inbox'. Image 1 shows how the existing email account is setup with the drafts, sent and Junk folders under Inbox. The image 2 shows how the new account is showing up, no drafts or sent folders.

I am subscribed to them all.

How to get the Drafts and Sent folders under Inbox?

I am about to change desktop computers - upgrading to Windows 11. How or can I transfer all my Thunderbird data, saved emails, address books,layout, etc, to my new computer? Can I export everything to an external hard drive and then import to the new PC? Many thanks for any advice. heers, Ron

Is it possible to open incoming mails in the same window as the list of e-mails, just like in Google? I get distracted from seeing suddenly my e-mail in another window/tab.

I'm trying to import everything from my Outlook account. I've got a .pst file and a .mbox file. I've tried to import all the information into Thunderbird using the instructions, but no luck. Not sure what to do?

I am unable to send emails because i get an error message :"sending message failed, because connection to outgoing server (SMPT) smpt,centurylink,net timed out.

In both my desktop older installation (now updated) and my new laptop installation, when I go thru Account Settings and check off what I want, it all changes when I leave the setup. I uncheck the startup page, and when I open both versions of Bird, the startup page is there again. Same with table/card setup, and other options. Isn't there a "save" in Account settings? I want to change my g-mail password but before I stop getting mails in Thunderbird I looked for how I will do that in Thunderbird. I find there is NO WAY to change a password in Thunderbird and there is no current password listed either. I find that ridiculous not to be able to change a password and zero instructions anywhere. Pretty stupid ! Someone with some brains at Mozilla needs to come up with an update for Thunderbird to add a way to change a password. Can't add an image because I don't want to give away any private information.

I feel like this has been asked a million times, but yet I cant find a current answer that resolves it from all the posts on google. And some are conflicting.

I added my gmail account. Imap. I dont want it downloading and saving thousands of emails. How do I stop that?

Is the only way to do that, by limiting the sync settings to like 7 days? Is this screenshot, the correct area?

I also tried Unsubscribing all the inboxes, Save, close. Then check the Subscribe pop up again, and it just re-checks them all! I cant uncheck them, it just rechecks them.

My thanks again to sfhowes, Rick and others for assisting me to get back my ability to once again send e-mails from Thunderbird. Now for the next step.

Just days ago, I migrated my years of Thunderbird e-mails on a POP protocol to IMAP. Before doing so and before also uninstalling my old Thunderbird because of e-mail sending problems and then reinstalling a new version, I saved a profile. Now with the most current version of Thunderbird, I lost (i)a decades worth of saved inbox e-mails (but for the last 2 years), (ii)I lost all of my sent e-mails but a few odd ones, (iii)I lost my archived e-mails in Local Folders and (iv) I lost all of my contacts and saved group e-mail address lists.

My profile is saved on an external hard drive. Obviously the new installed version of Thunderbird must have somehow found the last 2 years of my inbox e-mails but nothing beyond that as mentioned above. Can you share please a recommended procedure where I can better import what I assume I saved correct on the profile I saved twice (I saved a master folder named Profile and separately saved 4 folders - 2 folders ending in default and 2 ending in default-release. Thank you.
