Recently Firefox change to putting my saved bookmarks somewhere instead of asking where I want my bookmark to go. So now every saved bookmark requires an 'Edit Bookmark'. This is stupid - I'm never going to want the bookmark where Firefox now assigns it. How do I go back to just being asked where I want to put the bookmark in the first place?

I noticed that firefox lately hides more specific options from the character encoding settings.
For example, it now has only one option for Japanese: "Japanese". It should contain encodings such as Shift-JIS, euc-JP, etc.. I want to, and I used to be able to, specify which of the encodings I need.
The auto detection really often messes it up, and this is a huge problem when browsing old-fashioned websites.
Is there any way I can specify the encoding manually? I'm OK with digging into about:config, or even use the developer tools if necessary (for an emergency measure).

When I connect to a public wifi I get connected to their network. However, the terms acceptance page won't load, which means I can't agree to terms, which means that I cannot get connected to the internet. There was no problem through Tuesday, 12/10/19, but starting on Wednesday the terms pages quit loading.
How do I put the Tabs on Bottom with Firefox 71? Once again, with their update, they SCREWED UP.

Even when I search in Preferences --> Search --> Find more search engines, Google does not even appear in the results. When I visit Google.com, the green plus sign does not appear on the magnifying glass in the search toolbar, but it shows up on almost every other site. Even on this Mozilla Support site, the green plus sign appears and I can add this to my search toolbar, but I can't add Google.
This all started when I updated my Mac to Catalina, but I don't see why that would affect my ability to simply add Google to my search toolbar. Someone please help, this is driving me insane.

on a Windows 10 machine, an error occurred when trying to open mail attachments. The path to the temporary file that is passed to the appropriate application arrives incomplete. If the filename contains a dot or whitespace, it will be cut at that position: E.g. "path\file.1.pdf" or "path\file 1.pdf" is received as "path\file." or "path\file ".
I can confirm that the attachment files exists and can be opened manually from the expected location, e.g. "%appdata%\local\temp\".
This must have happened during the last 2 weeks. Before that, everything worked as expected. Windows 10 and Thunderbird are up to date.
Do you have a hint what might have caused this and how to fix it?
For the past few days, randomly when I open a new tab, I get one or more popup windows asking me if I want to open popup.htm.

I'm setting up TBird on a new computer. I copied the Profile and Email folders to the new computer and used Profile Manager to reference these locations.
The account information transferred correctly along with the old email. However with the previous installation of TBird I had set up a number of folders under Local. These are not reproduced in the new installation, with the consequence that all the emails have ended up in the single Inbox folder.
How can I get the folder setup to transfer to the new installation and have the old email shown in the correct folders?

Updating to Firefox 71.0 was a catastrophe. I lost all my open tags though RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION was enabled. I had quite a while, till I figured out how Firefox really does restore previous sessions. The lost tabs though were gone.
But one problem is remaining. I can not restore closed tabs with 71.0. Ctrl+shift+T does not work anymore.
How can I enable it again Or is there a new combination for it

However, if I start a private window after inputting the password in the normal window, all the usernames (not passwords) are visible in the private window. This looks like a breach of privacy? I would have expected that a new private window would have to request the master password to be re-entered. Is this by design?

I don't know if up to date session managers work with the same file type, or whether it's a standard. I am looking for an addon that can at least read and open them. And preferably, that one can save and process sessions in this file type, to keep some continuity with my old profile. And still better, some cross browser session manager, so I can open those old files in, say, chrome too.

So after browsing for a while, when i right click (on any page) the popup menu doesn't show up. Also, when this happens, if i click any _folder_ in the Bookmarks toolbar, the popup window containing the items doesn't show/pop up either.
So, i created an entirely new profile in Firefox, without installing any addons or changing any of the other default settings. And, after browsing for a bit the same issue happens again...
Rebooting Firefox fixes the problem for a while. Please advise, thank you :)

When I type a few characters into the url bar, I see a list of completions from sites I've visited before, and the completion from the top match is highlighted in the URL bar. For example, if I type 'ny' into the search bar, I see a list of sites pop up with 'ny' in the url, and the URL bar itself now contains the original 'ny' characters followed by a highlighted string of 'times.com' since that's the site with nt in it that I've visited the most. So far, so good. The problem comes when I press <enter> however. Instead of taking me to the New York Times website as I intended, the browser reacts as if I only typed in ny in the search bar and hit <enter>, and it ignores the auto-suggestions that it just displayed. (In this case, it takes me to ny.com, which is not what I want). How do I get <enter> key presses to go to the completed url?
