Yahoo has locked itself as my homepage. How do I get rid of it?

Размещено

If I gave yahoo permission to be my homepage I didn't mean to. Now it is locked in as my home page. I would like to get rid of it. I was not sure which place to ask this question but this was as good as any. thank you, Linda

believe me that was the first thing I tried. It is not an option. If I go to about:config . And I see where my homepage is listed. The yahoo homepage says it is locked and I can't even click on it to change it. I don't know what to do. Any Ideas?

Do you have a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox or Thunderbird installation folder?

Yes, the mozilla.cfg file exists. My boyfriend cleared the contents of that file using notepad and saved the blank file yesterday. The browser came up fine after that until I powered down the computer last night and brought it back up this morning. The mozilla.cfg file was reconstructed and he cleared it again. He ran HijackThis and removed two entries (marked ** in the log file below): R0 - Yahoo search, O4 - Websearchy and said there were other problems he saw in the log. I do not see how to attach the HijackThis log, so it is copy pasta time:

I don't know about all entries of Online Armor. If you do not trust this software then you should uninstall it.

Note that is is usually best to do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder when a mozilla.cfg that you didn't create yourself is found (I use such a file to initialize some prefs globally). You can consider to make the file read-only and only allow Administrator access if you decide to keep the file.
