I have been using Firefox for a long time, and now use it on Windows 8 with a 64 bit processor. This morning, 28 January 2014, I found that when I opened Firefox, I heard unknown, intrusive, repetitious music that I could not stop, although it stopped itself when completed. Searching for a solution in the Help resoiurces, I failed to find one. I therefore uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it. However, the music still comes on. I am at a loss as to what to do to remove it.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

It sounds like an add or a game you had played. Start Firefox in Safe Mode. If it stops, it could be an add-on.

=======================================

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you for your suggestions. It turned out that, for some reason as mysterious as it starting, the music stopped. However, I have noted your recommendations for future reference. Bruno.Eldaldt
