My lappy having exactly NO problem 2 days ago and yesterday suddenly it can't on. So I went to the service centre and they said my harddisk is broke, it can't be use internally but can use externally. So I get my lappy formatted and bought the new hard drive.

I get the new Mozilla browser and of course all the bookmarks gone cause this is new windows. I don't prepare any back up from previous Mozilla. Is it possible to get back my old bookmarks while I don't back up? Please help I need my bookmarks, it's really important. I just don't think about the basic 101 of computer which is 'back up' for my bookmarks as I think nothing will happened to my lappy :(

First, I recommend copying the bookmarkbackups folder to an easier-to-access location.

Second, this article describes how to restore one of those backups: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. On the menu, use the "Choose File" option to locate the file you want to restore.

WARNING: A restore is a complete replacement. If you have bookmarked anything in the new install of Firefox that you don't want to lose, you need to do a four-step procedure:

(1) Export new bookmarks to HTML: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks

(2) Restore the old backup

(3) Import the HTML file you created: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file

(4) Reorganize the imported bookmarks to the proper location

When you said the hard disk could be used externally, do you have access to it as an external drive? If so, maybe you still have some data on there.

If not, do you recall ever setting up the Firefox Sync service before?

Hi jscher2000,

I can access all my data on my previous hard drive which now I'm using externally. After I open the 'Mozilla Firefox' folder what should I try to find in it?

No, never sync it before.

Hi Riekawl, if you had any difficulty tracking down your old bookmarkbackups folder and restoring one of those files, it could be due to Windows' and MacOS' default setting of hiding your application data folder. The workaround for that depends on which OS and version you have. Please post back for more information if needed.

Hi Diego Victor,

I have read all those articles but seems none of them exactly helping. But thanks anyway really appreciate it!

@jscher2000 as I stated earlier, I never make any backup of my old bookmarks.

Hi Riekawl, let me assume you run Windows.

First, turn on viewing of hidden files and folders per this Microsoft article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../show-hidden-files

Second, on your old drive, depending your OS, look for your old settings folder on your external drive (I'll call it drive E but substitute whatever is correct):

XP: E:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Vista / 7 / 8: E:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

You may find one randomly named folder in there, or more than one. Check each folder for a subfolder named bookmarkbackups. Can you find one?

Please check that and pause before restoring any of those files.
