ZTE One, orange cover, FOS 1.0.1 - 16GB SD card, 3GB mp4 files. Files on SD card in four folders. Video player strips files from folders into one list. More than 12 items listed scroll stops working, screen freezes or player closes. If I put one mp4 file on SD card it plays very well. If I add a few more the video player will start to play then crashes.

Tried playing files from cloud account, youtube or bbc news website - none of these alternatives work either.

Anything I can do? Or do I wait for OS upgrade and hope it fixes problem?

I have no way of exploring folders on SD card - if I did would selecting one mp4 file stop video player getting overwhelmed and stop the crashes - I am guessing the problem is low memory

Hi FriedEgg,

Thanks for using Firefox OS. Sorry your video player is crashing, it should not. I have filed a bug for this, thanks for the detailed report, much appreciated. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=930038 to follow progress.

Best regards, Michelle Luna

Hi FriedEgg,

One way to tell if it closed because of OOM, is if you had seen any banners or anything saying "crash" specifically.

The other way would require you to have adb for your PC and then type: adb shell dmesg

This will give you a log text which I could then take a look at to see if that was the problem. It is possible that it is an OOM; having said that I would like to verify that this is the case.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I looked for MX Player and it was not on Firefox Marketplace. I guess it only exists for standard Android and it will not run of Firefox OS :-(

See more details on my website review of Firefox OS at comedycsi.com

Thank you for this - I loaded a more detailed review on my blog comedycsi.com I really want Firefox OS to succeed and I am sure these early problems will be fixed soon.

Hi, many thanks for your offer of help.

I did get a 'crash report' each time and it was sent to Firefox automatically but I deleted all the log files when I was playing with my phone - Doh, stupid me. I will preserve any future logs and share them here.

I noticed that the most crashes happened when the SD Card had a lot of folders/files on it and the phone's battery level was under 40% - looks like an issue with power as well as memory???

I put more detail in my blog review of the ZTE One/Open at comedycsi.com

I generally like Firefox OS and love its ethos so I want it to be successful - but it has bugs which are so basic they should have been fixed before a release e.g. the lack of a file manager - say what???

FriedEgg,

Could you please link to the blog post on the website provided? If it's not possible to find it and you are advertising, we will have to remove the links.

Thanks!

Apologies - here's the specific URL for my review http://comedycsi.com/2013/10/21/firefox_review/

The video is on YouTube so a YouTube search will find it if you prefer that route.

There are discussions of Apple, Android and Firefox OS elsewhere on my blog too. But that review is my summary of first impressions using the ZTE One/Open and Firefox OS 1.0.1

My blog is hosted by Wordpress but has no advertising and I personally never track my visitors so feel free to visit or not.

I keep having this problem but the screen just reports that it crashed - no details so no point in sending a screenshot. But I have ticked options to send an auto report every time there is a crash so someone will have more detail.

Best wishes, Eggy

Thanks, Eggy. Just sending a note saying that I saw your posts. I'll review them either today or tomorrow and try to get back to you.

Thanks Feer56. I was going to ask that question myself.  :)

I've tried duplicating the issue, but I cannot seem to. Have you tried upgrading to 1.1 since then and then tried the movies again?
