I had difficulties to make my ZTE open recognize the SIM card. Depending on my service provider said on there website:

"an unlocked GSM 850/1900MHz, HSPA handset."

and ZTE spec I found here:

  http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_open-5320.php

there should be no problem for ZTE open to recognize my SIM card, but it just does not work! I also try my friend's SIM card from another service provider, it does not work either.

Any idea?

I did not get any error message, just a small icon in the top showing no SIM card. In the left top of screen it shows "Emergency Call Only (no sim)".

BTW, my and my friend's SIM cards both could be recognized right away by Nexus One I got in 2010.

emomo: Please try the reset as suggested. It is possible that there may be a hardware issue but please try the suggested item.

Thank you!

OK, I tried it and tried twice by following the reset instruction you provided . After reset the SIM card still could not be recognized :(

At this point, I would suggest that you contact ZTE - if you tell you to contact us, tell them you did and that you also did a reset and that the sim still can't be recognized.

The first time I installed the SIM card, I had the same problem.

I opened the phone and reseated the card and that fixed the problem. I think I did not have it pushed in all the way.

@grinzie: I have already tried it more than 30 times, and I had more than ten cell phones before, this is the first point that ever happened, so I don't think I seat the SIM card wrong way.

I asked for support from ZTE on Sep 11, that was about two weeks ago. Still have not heard anything from ZTE. NOTHING! I am really upset about the ZTE customer service.

Hello Emomo,

I'm sorry that you're having issues with your ZTE Open. I have a couple questions, so I can understand the issue better.

  • Is this an ZTE Open from the Ebay store or a device from Movistar in Spain?
  • Are you using a mini or full sized sim card?
  • Could you PM me your the contact information you used to contact ZTE so I can follow up with them regarding your issue?

Best, Patrick

Hello Emomo,

Are you still experiencing this issue and have you heard back from ZTE's support yet?

I recently came across another user with a similar issue to this one and it turns out that the SIM wasn't seated correctly. I believe you can power on the ZTE without the battery insert while it's hooked up via USB. At that point you should be able to seat the SIM properly and see that it is recognized by the phone.

Let us know if you still require assistance.
