Firefox's last upgrade has wiped out all bookmarks and Facebook pages, images. I have gone through the recommended fix for bookmarks and nothing helped.

Last Firefox Upgrade deleted my bookmarks. It also has caused my Facebook pages to be completely empty. I have tried to fix the bookmarks with the directions given by the error message I received, and nothing helped. I need simple, clear directions. I went back and checked the "places" folders just now and instead of the one that was there earlier, there are now four. Other than the one I added the word ".old" to earlier, the others say that they are in use with another person or program and won't let me do anything to them except delete them, but I don't know if that is the right move.

Did you reset Firefox as part of the things that you've tried?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

In cases when there is a problem with displaying web pages then you can first try to reload and bypass the cache or clear the cache and cookies from those sites.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
