I am getting an error box pop up telling me firefox can't update securely, but don't know how to do so without uninstalling all my settings how do I do it ?
Please can anyone help me !! I am using Windows 7 64 bit and my Firefox update is regularly popping up a box that reads "Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version from Firefox from http://www.firefox.com". I am a novice at this and don't know how to do this without it uninstalling all my bookmarks and other settings. I know I need an English version preferably British, but usually when I attempt anything like this it goes pear shaped, so if there is anyone out there who could walk me through it step by step I would most appreciate it. Thanks.

If there are problems with updating then do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
Hello Cor-el
Thank you for replying to my post so quickly, but could you just clarify things for me given that I am a complete numb scull when it comes to anything like this. When you say to first download a copy of Firefox 20.0 how do I know which Firefox to uninstall, is it that I go to my control panel and find Firefox then uninstall it from there ?. Also how do I cleanup my Windows registry and settings in security software ? How do I avoid removing my personal data when uninstalling my current version ? How do I remove my Firefox program folder ? As you might be able to guess I'm a bit of a dunce at things like this and I'm more than likely to screw it up and end up with a completely unusable browser. Any help you can give me by putting things step by step would be really useful and I will be forever in your debt. Thank you once again for all your help.
Regards
Jumbochick
There should only be the currently installed Firefox version present in Control Panel > Programs.
Do you see more (older) Firefox versions as still being installed in the Windows Control Panel?
Uninstalling Firefox should cleanup related keys in the Windows registry, so there is usually no need to do this yourself.
In case there were problems with updating like you had, it is usually a good idea to check if all files were removed including the Firefox program folder after uninstalling Firefox via the Control Panel and if necessary remove the Firefox program folder yourself.
- (32 bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
- (64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
Hi Cor-el
One more question promise ! when you say to remove Firefox program folder exactly how do I do this ? I see that for me it will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ but how do I delete it, do I right click then chose delete or is it something else ? Thanks.
Jumbochick
Do you still have a Firefox program folder after uninstalling Firefox?
Yes, you can right-click and choose Delete to delete the Firefox program folder and make Windows move the folder to the recycle bin.
Hello Cor-el
I'm sorry to bother you again, but I'm in the middle of trying to solve my updates for Mozilla Firefox issue and reinstalling it right now and I have come across the part where I'm supposed to delete my Firefox Program Folder and have got stuck. My Firefox Program Folder reads as follows :-
Componants 9/4/2013 File Folder Modules 9/3/2013 File Folder Plugins 9/3/2013 File Folder Search Plugins 9/4/2013 File Folder Webapprt 9/3/2013 File Folder Webapprt-stub.exe 9/3/2013 Application Webapp-uninstaller.exe 9/3/2013 Application
Do I right click each one and delete, I really don't know how to do it so if you could just guide me so I can complete my uninstallation and reinstallation of Firefox ASAP I will most appreciate it. Thanks

No, you need to remove the parent Firefox folder that contains these files.
- (32 bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
- (64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
That will remove the Firefox program folder with all files in it.

Hi Cor-el
I don't wish to sound a bit thick but what is a parent file and how do I delete it. You need to put things step by step for me to follow, think of me as a child and that way I might follow what you are trying to tell me
Jumbochick
You are on a 64 bit Windows 7 version, so you need to delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ that contains the files that you listed above. That folder is what I meant with the parent folder.
Hi Cor-el So does that mean I right click each one I listed and choose delete ?

Hello Cor-el
PLEASE PLEASE can you tell me if I right click each one in my folder as I listed above and choose delete, even the ones that say Application and not File Folder or not ? I am stuck in limbo waiting and can't progress any further until I can get to know an answer.
Jumbochick
You can go to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\" folder and right-click the "Mozilla Firefox" folder and delete this folder.
That will remove the entire Firefox program folder with all files and folders in it.
