Hello, I've used Firefox for years, but last time I migrated to Chrome. I'ld like to come back, but I have problems with blur / fuzzy fonts on Firefox.

Before I create this question, I checked several topics. - Disable HA - no results - Use Anti-Alias Tuner - no results - change gfx.content.azure.enabled etc. - no results

I tried several version - stable, ESR, beta, aurora... still without results. Change graphics driver... nothing.

Last option - I compared fonts in Firefox and Chrome during changing settings. All is very silimiar, except one details - alias colors, see:

I think, this may cause blur effect and tired eyes. Is it possible, to change this?

I try compare text on MS Word or notepad with browser. My bad - font in Chrome is not normal... everything has the same Times New Roman or Arial as Firefox.

hello, can you adjust the settings with this addon?

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/anti-aliasing-tuner/

I wrote about that:

"Use Anti-Alias Tuner - no results"

I don't know how configure tuner. When I tried, I was only achieved worse than default settings results.

i cannot give any advice on what settings to tweak there because i don't use it myself - however probably a restart of the browser is necessary for the changes through the extension to take effect...

Please tell the most-ever information you could ever thought about the problem suffered.

That's the first of all question if you really wanna get "mightly" useful help from others. With patients you'll get equivalent!

Due to lack of (almost every)information, below is some blur/fuzzy's that I could suggest at moment:

1. Please use latest stable version of Firefox(Well done for you.)

2. Here is some basic steps when got unclear problem,try it first in sequence:

a. keep your Profiles in a safe copy to prevent things go worse;

b. restart Firefox in Safe-mode and see if it's resolved;

c. give a NICE try for Help->TroubleShooting->Reset Profile and restart Firefox, and wait for something good;

d. depending if or not, do further check(but no more advice on details now);

Then Specify your blur problem more precisely by:

1.could you snapshot and show some webpage to testify how fuzzy it is(compare with Chrome and others like Notepad font)?

2.could it be a hardware problem or just because of a loose plug?

3.did you ever modify any about:config item, add-on settings or css stylish to change font display effect?

4.did you ever use third party font rendering software(like but not limeted as FreeType/gdipp/mactype) which might not compatible with Firefox?

Good luck and hopefully might help.

Tried, the same.

I did it. Problem exists on totally fresh install.

"1.could you snapshot and show some webpage to testify how fuzzy it is(compare with Chrome and others like Notepad font)? "

Font is fuzzy on all pages. On first post I add link to image that describe the problem - on all default settings there is only little difference, but it on page with text it's annoying and uncomfortable.

I tested this using lorem ipsum + common fonts:

Arial: http://i.imgur.com/KAgzGQo.png

Courier New: http://i.imgur.com/UUfp20X.png

Times New Roman: http://i.imgur.com/wU7X4G4.png

On all fonts, text on Firefox is "bolder" and blurry. I think is because stronger aliasing color (image from first post).

I probably can not help but a couple of comments

  • try just using default fonts (I am Not using Firefox Windows myself at moment so not sure what that is)
  • note if you wish screenshots may be attached in this forum, use the add images option

It may not be easy to demonstrate this problem in that screenshots themselves may add distortion by the time the image has been compressed and then displayed in the browser.

(Mac's may have had a problem recently with Firefox, but that is down to the resolution quadrupling of the new retina system ) I was recently looking around the forum and did not see many posts about blurred fonts other than on Mac's.

Compression isn't problem - I add only png files.

Hm... all is because... ClearType. On 15,6" notebook with HD+ (1600x900px) is fuzzy. On 15,6 HD (1366x768px) is much better.

On 15,6" HD+ on Ubuntu fonts in Chrome and Firefox are identical...

It's not so unclear as my point of view, at least I couldn't find any OBVIOUSLY difference among the 3 snapshots attached(due to lose pixel?).

But it seems like you are stick to get as HIGH quality font display as possible. As far as I know there was a problem on earlier Fx version(13?) with certain software of gdi++(or gdipp) on additional hint effect.

It might be something related font display setting with ClearType for Windows OS(or similar setting for Mac or Linux, if there is).

So again, Please note that it's better let your anonymous friends in the another end of web to KNOW all about your trouble details AT beginning.

That will insure the topic be the samething on both of us.

Some more words.

I don't know what style goes, I'm kinda new here. But in bugzilla, they promt your user agent when post by forum system default.

It could be a little confused for end-users to figure out what the User Agent is. But the same is, if you wanna get help, try name it as CLEAR as possible AT First.

And necessary background information on what your OS system and Fx version is and so on, will be much MORE powerful and efficient than just nonsence of “I got a problem”.

Dude, we always got problems, esp that blade guy:( but different parts only.

I know, but there is auto-UA - you can see it on top-right. There is also link "More system details" with informations about plugins.

Did I say I was new here. Yeah, it looks like I tell the truth.

Okay, you're right.

(but little bad tricky is that "More system details" totally fake within nothing detailed in the hyperlink.)

It might be something related font display setting with ClearType for Windows OS(or similar setting for Mac or Linux, if there is).

Seems like I guess right for your situation. Hope your blur things got fiexed eventually.

Hi lukasamd,
I am hoping that you have decided the problem is down to hardware / software limitations rather than a Firefox problem. I have marked the thread solved, but unmark that if you still need any further help.

Hi iwo0,
Welcome to the forum.

The More system details information depends on user interaction.

There have been changes on the forum recently, and the intention is to make it easier to almost automatically add this information.
