Hi,

When trying to access a web-based data base thta worked fine with FireFox 16, I now got message: "Your Browser is not supported" at the place where an image loaded via a plugin (ChemDraw plug-in 12.0.2.1076) should load. This worked perfectly with version 16 and the plugin is still in place and not declared incompatible by FireFox. How do I modify the way FireFox announces it-self to the web site so that it is not declared incompatible...

Hi,

This tiny addition could be helpful.

Thank you. I'm not sure it solves the problem because, as far as I can see, it disguises FireFox into Internet Explorer, but this is not what I wish. I wish FireFox to say to the web site that it is FireFox 16 instead of 17.

Actually, I downgraded and installed FireFox 16.02 (overwriting the installation of FireFox 17) and this solves my problem (it also made another add-o to work again [Skype Click to Call]). But this is no a real solution as FireFox has the tendency to ugrade it-self silently ...

Please try this: click Edit User Agents > New > New User Agent; you can enter anything as Description, and in User Agent you can try for example Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:16.0) Gecko/16.0 Firefox/16.0.

Hi,

I tried and it works ! What I had to do was to downgrade to version 16, install the add-on, copy the configuration from there as a new User agent (which I called FireFox 16), then upgrade and then select the FireFox 16 user agent...

Amazingly enough, however, when checking the test (through the web site http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/features/test/ it says I have version 17 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0) aven though I selected my FireFox 16 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0).

I do not knwo exactly why the test does not work but the web site that needs FireFox 16 works ...

hmm... you may have to select an existing or the manually created user agent entry from the add-on's drop-down menu whenever Firefox is started for the first time. Please see the section Why does the user agent reset when the browser closes?. Also please note the section that states that there are methods other than the headers to reveal the user agent.

Thank you. I did what you suggested but your site still says I'm FireFox 17 but the site that required FireFox 16 works... This the main thing for me. Perhaps, we should move on to another forum, because my question was general and not specifically related to your useful add-on. I'll repost this on your forum.

That would be fine :) You would be able to get excellent support from the add-on authors and the regular users: http://forums.chrispederick.com/

Please note that the developer/author of User Agent Switcher is chrispederick.
