We have a search for electric toe space heaters & a web site that open every time we open Firefox. I cannot figure out how to permanently close them.
Somehow this search & web site must have been saved or linked to open up EVERY time we open Firefox. I cannot figure out how to stop it.

Try checking & if necessary resetting or changing your Home Page. You may have accidentally included that as one of your hompages.
If that is not the reason maybe it is some rogue adware, unwanted helper or malware that you have picked up. The next stage is look at and follow advice in this article:

Did you check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut to make sure that there isn't an URL appended.
You can also try to reset some preferences to the default with the SearchReset extension:
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
You can also try to delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
