Was this short cut changed to another set of keys? How do you put your cursor into the search box without having to drag your mouse all the way up into that corner?

The Ctrl + E shortcut is now used to open the Panorama window (View > Tab Groups).

You can use Ctrl + K to go to the Google search bar and Ctrl + L to go to the location bar.

Thanks! Yea, those work, but I would really prefer to have the Ctrl+E back, because I'm used to doing it with my left hand. Anyway, I'm sure I'll get used to Ctrl+K too.

Ctrl+K requires 2 hands. Ctrl+E is FAR better. Please restore this functionality. Google search is used more frequently than the panorama.

Besides, what was wrong with CTRL+space? It was much more handy than CTRL+E .

Changing the functionality of such a long-standing hotkey is ridiculous. Ctrl+E is also the standard hotkey to enter the search box in Internet Explorer, and in Windows Explorer from Vista onwards. I'm sure it's used elsewhere in Windows too.

Ctrl+E is also used in Opera.

Not to mention that Panorama is far from being ready (no multimonitor support, can't save your Panorama session, gets really confusing when you only have one window and no real indication if there are tabs hidden).

Not acceptable, I always use Alt D and Ctrl E to navigate

FIREFOX - Please make it an option to revert back to previous action. I have no need or desire to use the panorama and would like to switch its action to K and the search back to E

Ok, firstly, how many Ctrl keys do you have? How does Ctrl-K require two hands? Can't you do it with your right hand?

Secondly, if you learn to touch-type, using two hands is the quickest and most efficient way of doing all 2-key combinations. For example, for a colon (:) you use your left Shift. For exclamation mark, you use your right Shift (!). Similary, for Ctrl-E, you use your right Ctrl, and for Ctrl-K, your left.

I'm here because I missed my Ctrl-E too, but I can deal with Ctrl-K, now that I know it's there. No biggie.

This is a problem. Firstly, because Firefox 3 (in Windows), IE and Opera only use the Ctrl-E shortcut. Why train the users to change what they do for Firefox 4 only?

Secondly, Ctrl-E can be typed with just your left hand while your right hand is on the mouse, without changing the position of your hand. This saves quite a lot of time and reduces fatigue.

Before creating disbelief, let me explain a common example. Consider the need to google a single word from your clipboard (from any document/application). Until now you had to (1) Open a new tab - Ctrl-T, (2) Focus on the web search - Ctrl-E, (3) Paste the word - Ctrl-V and (4) Press Enter using the side enter button. This required your left hand on the keyboard and no move of your right hand.

To do this in Firefox 4 you have to: 1) Open a new tab - Ctrl-T, (2) Move your right hand on the keyboard and focus on the web search - Ctrl-K, (3) Paste the word - Ctrl-V, (4) Press Enter using the main Enter button and finally (5) Return your hand on the mouse to continue browsing. This requires moving your right hand twice.

If you have a AutoHotKey script running (if you don't you should look into it as its great), you can add the following to map Ctrl+E to Ctrl+K for Firefox 3 and Firefox 4

Map Ctrl+E to Ctrl+K for Firefox 3 and Firefox 4

~<^e:: If WinActive("ahk_class MozillaUIWindowClass") Or WinActive("ahk_class MozillaWindowClass") { Send, {Ctrldown}k{CtrlUp} } return

Which idiot thought this was a good idea, and why did no-one stop them?

There's no excuse for changing long-established, standard shortcuts. This violates the Principle of Least Astonishment, is very user-hostile, and shows a lack of maturity among developers. Microsoft does this all the time; Mozilla should know better. At least there's an add-on to fix it!

I completely agree with the complaints here. As a web developer I use many different browsers...all of which use Ctrl+E to move the cursor to the search box.

I recall moving to Firefox because it followed standards and conventions already set-forth by predecessors and other industry partners -- are you trying to pull and IE on us? "Lets just change common functionality because we feel like it"

If you don't want me using Chrome full-time you will switch back the Ctrl-E hot key to the search box.

everything else rules (love the 'open tab' link when im about to open a link a already have open) but this is the dumbest or evilest thing ever done to your tech nerds (aka main cheerleaders.)

I just spent 15 minutes setting up and verifying this account to say how bad of an idea this is.

now every time im on any other browser for any other reason, i get flustered. is your real reason to steer us away from the google bar? that is the only reason i can think of...

can someone tell us why they swapped these keys? and can someone change it back. do i really have to install two plugins and take time to configure this to get something back to normal?

thanks, and keep up the good work.

Takes a lot less than 15 minutes to install one of these extensions to fix that,

The problem at heart isn't that it requires two hands, it's that it typically involves my right hand. That means I have to take it off my mouse.

Firefox: Helping us to not get fatter xD I get used to new things easily, I don't need plugins to restore the old shortcuts, I just use my left hand to press "Right Ctrl+K", or use both hands. I'm learning to finally be able to completely control the PC without using a mouse (except for games =D)

more options

Quick workaround (leaves right hand on mouse): Alt-D then tab.

But please fix this. It can't be more than a couple lines of code somewhere.

dont know who has allowed to make such a mistake, but guys, look FF is not big enough to go against the industry standards. And for browsers Ctrl+E (and F6 btw) is an insdustry standard and everybody does it. Chrome, Opera, Safary, even IE. I'm using two browsers at the same time on two screens, and I dont want to keep in mind two different combinations for a one action. Turn this back to normal, ASAP. this is a huge marketing mistake for FF.
