Recently upgraded to 4.0b6 and Firefox keeps on crashing. It starts out by getting progressively slower and slower, then freezing for a few seconds, then just crashes and all tabs close. On restart everything is mostly saved and I can continue working, but it's impossible to work this way. I doesn't seem linked to any specific site/action.

I have spent a fortune on technician to find malware/viruses and optimise my laptop, but it doesn't seem to help.

Does Firefox submit crash reports to Mozilla? If it does post some of the crash report IDs as this may help identify the cause of the crashing. See the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article for details of how to retrieve the crash report IDs

Hi Tony ... Yes, most times reports were submitted, but even though I've been trying for the past hour the crash reports won't download, I guess I'll have to wait till it happens again. thanks

Without access to specific crash reports, here are some things you can try. Some of these troubleshooting options are detailed in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article, which also includes further information about troubleshooting this.

One possible cause of crashing is incompatible add-ons. A couple of troubleshooting article to try, the first is troubleshooting extensions and themes, this in particular can be used to check the extensions that you have installed to see if they are causing the crashing. The second is troubleshooting plugins, looking at your list of plugins they are fairly standard I don't think they will cause the crashing, but it does no harm in checking them.

The next troubleshooting option I recommend is creating a new profile. Firefox stores user data in a profile, and creating a new profile will show if there is a problem with your current profile. For details about how to do this see Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows. If the new profile works, you can transfer some data such as bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. It is best to r-install any extensions, and not to copy the preferences. For details on how to do that see Transferring data to a new profile.

This is constantly happening since I was involuntarily "upgraded" to 4.0. My report looks like this:

Crashes just after starting. I get about 30 seconds of time before I get the "Firefox has stopped working" message. Always click on the send report and close option.

To follow up: I uninstalled the program, then downloaded and reinstalled 4.0. So far, no crashes. This is all being done in Windows Vista.

I cannot keep Firefox 4.0 open longer than a few minutes. I have not installed any add-on's except what came packaged with Firefox. I have un- installed and re-installed twice now. Even in safe mode it still crashes. I only had my Gmail tab open. Here is the crash report ... Had to make this post on Opera :o

Same thing here, essentially. 4.0 keeps crashing if I have gmail open on one tab.

I downloaded 4.0 yesterday afternoon. In less than 24 hours, Firefox 4.0 has crashed 6 times. A crash report was sent each time. My problem is very similar to everyone else. The overall performance of Firefox 4.0 is very slow. It then slows even more until it ultimately crashes.

Same here, when I am in my Gmail account it "locks up" after 30-60 seconds. I have visitied other websites and the pages load extremely slowly. This is very frustrating from a browser that I have come to trust and enjoy.

Same as me, I cant even count how many times now Firefox 4 crashed on me every 30-60 seconds when I opened it. I had to re-grade to Firefox 3.6 to post this!! Very annoying !

more options

This is happening on both computers I have Firefox 4 installed on -- a laptop and a desktop, both running XP. When left unattended for an hour or so, they crash. I'm only running Firefox with 4 or 5 tabs, iTunes, and that's about it, so I'm surprised at the high memory usage as well.

Crash report below.
