I am having issues with headers and other text on many sites, including popular sites such as Tumblr and Twitter. It has been noted that this is an issue with the Helvetica font and you must delete the font for Firefox to work properly.

This problem does not occur with ANY other browser except Firefox, and browsers are supposed to know to substitute fonts. This is an ongoing problem I have simply dealt with for a year at least until it started causing more and more problems with new sites I use. I'm a graphic designer. If I am forced to choose between a very popular font for my work or a malfunctioning browser with support that would rather duct tape the problem than give any real customer support, then I will definitely choose my font and a different browser more willing to fix its shortcomings.

Please let me know if there is any progress being made on this matter.

Courtneyrose, just letting you know that I have a similar problem in 4 Beta 7 through 9.

I mentioned at [https://support.mozilla.com/hi-IN/que.../744520] that I have been all right with Firefox 3 for my Helveticas (PostScript Type 1, TrueType and OpenType) but my Firefox 4 goes nuts. (Refer the screen shots—they are beyond illegible or anything you’ve seen to date.)

I should note it is not just Helvetica. Our in-house Arial substitute, Lucire, displays sometimes in Firefox 4 Beta, but not all the time. Usually, it comes out as the hex-code boxes that I show in the attachments.

I agree that mere deletion is not a solution. To professional designers, it would be akin to saying: ‘Have a toothache? Pull all your teeth.’ Fonts are part of our trade, and we shouldn’t be forced to change when every other program has no problem with these fonts—just Firefox.

You can exchange a font in firefox globally by entering the following line into userContent.css found(or created) in your firefox profile folder profiles\..\chrome (see http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserContent.css for better description)

there enter the line: @font-face { font-family: 'helvetica neue'; src: local('Arial'); }
