when I try to log into my gmail account, it is asking me to verify by log in first to an inactive account that was linked to my gmail account. with Chrome I have no problem log in to my gmail account

Sounds like you need to remove that inactive account from google. Google is showing that inactive account right, not Firefox. Post a screenshot and block the username of the account. Show the issue and block personal info.
I get a verification code, but no issues getting into gmail. see screenshot
