all of a sudden my firefox "home page" is being filled up with icon of web searches! I spend time having to delete each one. why did this start and how do I stop it? I'm going to go back to windows edge if this is the grief I'm going to get on mozilla/firefox

Looks like under Tools -> Settings -> Home section ( about:preferences#home ) in the Firefox Home Content heading is a checkbox for Web Search. If that is checked, uncheck it.

I don't use the Firefox Home page so I'm not 100% sure this will solve it but perhaps one of the other options might if it doesn't.

Thx. Yes I found that after my post and that took care of it. (un-checking web search). Not sure how it got checked as it was a new issue that just started. Just curious, what do you you use for your "home page"?

Glad you found it after posting and confirming that it corrected it.

The drop-down for New Tabs is just set to Blank Page out of habit. The Homepage is set to a Custom URL that's on my website that I've been using forever. I might mess around with the Firefox Homepage just to see what it can do.
