Hi, is Firefox crashing completely and closing or do you get an in-tab crash message ("Gah" and button to reload)?

Usually Firefox will attempt an automatic crash recovery for a regular (non-private) session. If Firefox isn't automatically restoring your previous session windows and tabs, could you check whether either of these are available (not hidden or grayed out):

  • "3-bar" menu button > History > Restore Previous Session
  • (menu bar) History > Restore Previous Session

If they are missing or grayed, check either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • "Library" toolbar button > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Windows

When you reload after a crash, Firefox normally only restore the active tab in each window. Then when you activate other tabs, Firefox loads them. So it should be a while before Firefox is overloaded, if that's the problem.

Assuming you're back up and running, could you describe the message you got in more detail?

If you have a lot of tabs open just to remember them and not because you need them in the near future, you can create a giant bookmark folder of your open tabs. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+D
  • (menu bar or Alt+B) Bookmarks > Bookmark All Tabs...

You can give the new folder a name like 6/23/25 Tab Backup so you can remember the purpose of it later.

If you had some other question about tabs, maybe describe how you like to use them?
