For some reason the first item when I open my browser is google. I do not use google-I can search my browser's history and see I do not use google. How do I get it removed? There is no reason for it to pop-up in my browser at all but there is absolutely no reason for it to be the top item whenever I open my browser. Why is it even there? I always use DuckDuckGo to search.

Please help me remove google from my browser. I have attached a screenshot with my browser showing google as the first item when I open it. This is getting so frustrating when I try to avoid google like the plague...the plague it is.

Thank you very much.

Google isn't a browser but a search engine site. So not sure if it's that homepage or something else. Did you set DDG as homepage using the Firefox browser faq for homepage set.

Firefox is the web browser while Google in this case is one of the default search engine options that most Firefox languages locales comes with.

You can choose another search engine in the default list or install another search engine of your choice.

In the drop-down menu at the right of the Firefox screen, I select “Settings” for Firefox; under the tab “search”, there are a list of search engines to select from. I have always selected DuckDuckGo, however whenever I open Firefox, instead of DuckDuckGo coming up, Google search comes up, in 2 locations (the address bar and the search bar). In order to use DuckDuckGo I have to go through a Google drop-down menu on the address bar – I never had to do this before and I want nothing to do with Google on Firefox.

I selected Google and tried the “Remove” feature. Contrary to a few months ago when I reinstalled my OS, Google has blocked itself from removal. I am allowed to remove anything else on the same menu, but I can no longer remove Google, and, although DuckDuckGo is clearly my default selection, Google keeps coming over the top of it, forcing me to de-select Google every time I try to do a search.

It is clear that Google has infected my computer with itself, making it nothing different than a virus. What do I have to do to get back where I can permanently remove Google? Google is making my life miserable.

I submitted this problem to Mozilla, but they told me I have to contact Firefox support; they gave me a link to FIREFOX "SUPPORT" (a joke - Firefox's idea of "Support" is to let the other customers stroke each other's misery. If I need that kind of support, I'll buy a jock strap. No offense to the others like myself, we all need help - I just don't have time to camp out at a forum, waiting for help.)
