I am trying to export/import my book marks from one macOS computer to another (intel to Apple silicon), however, all of my imports and restore attempts fail. My last restore attempt failed with the following message: Firefox Unable to process the backup file. Any other suggestions?

After some more troubleshooting, I realized the bookmarks where stored in my Dropbox share that is stored in the remotely. Once I downloaded the directory to the local computer both methods for importing/restoring the bookmarks worked fine.

Hi, as you probably discovered, there are two different features/formats that work a bit differently:

(1) JSON (compressed or uncompressed) file used with backup and restore -- not compatible with import

Ref. Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

Restoring a JSON backup completely replaces the current set of bookmarks.

(2) HTML file used with export and import -- not compatible with restore

Ref.

Importing an HTML export file adds to your existing set of bookmarks. Import *might* put the bookmarks into their original locations, or it might put them under an Imported Bookmarks folder at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu or in Other Bookmarks.

Which methods have you tried so far?

Note that messages like "Unable to process the backup file" usually indicate that there is a problem with a corrupted places.sqlite database.

Thank you for your response, however, I tried both methods for bringing over my bookmarks and neither worked. I did notice after submitting my question to the community that the original system was creating 0kb size files. After some more troubleshooting, I realized the bookmarks where stored in my Dropbox share that is stored in the remotely.
