modify shortcuts on the opening page?

I would like to "manage" the shortcuts as they appear on my opening page. I don't know if it's possible.

I find the current icons boring and not quickly informative. I'd like, for example, to Alphabetize them, and to not show some of them without actually removing them from my bookmarks list.

Can anyone assist?
