SYNC says acct. PW wrong, but using the same PW stored in the cookie!
Factory reset android phone, trying to sync with my account. Tells me my password is wrong, but it's the SAME as what's stored in the cookie! If I try to change it, it tells me whatever I've entered as a new password is wrong? Can't win!

When i went back to 'original device' i.e. the pc, as I stated, the password ISN'T lost! It's stored in the browser cookie and exactly matches in my pw db. Also I setup to be notified of responses to this query & nothing in spam. Waiting all day for this.
So NOW I tried resetting the password for the 2nd time today. At 7am & 7pm it tells me I've tried too many times. I'd ditch this browser for good if it wasn't the only browser you can still use popup blockers on.
5 minutes later I get email saying pw update successful. I seriously doubt the safety and security of this thing
A password is never stored in a cookie, what a website that remembers stores in a cookie is a session ID that is stored on the server and that identifies you.
If the password is wrong then you likely made a typo in case you have updated the password recently. Note that you shouldn't confuse the Primary Password that encrypts the logins stored in the Password Manager (logins.json in the Firefox profile folder) and the password of the Firefox Sync Account.
In case of issues, try to login to the Firefox Account via this website.
