One step software installation?

In the pre-Webextension days, there was an add-on that allowed one-step install/run of downloaded executables. It worked like this: When the option was selected, the executable was downloaded into a temporary directory, execute it from there, and finally (optionally) delete it.

Now I only do it manually.

Ironically, MS Edge has this functionality built-in (see attachment).

Is there a way to achieve this on FF?

Unfortunately Addon/Extensions aren't part of the Firefox forum end user help here. As to Chrome and Edge how they function on Adodn that is up to them. If you want to make such suggestion then you need to file a suggestion for such request.

But Addon are the Addon Developer to improve or change upon and not for Firefox to do as such.

My question was about a scenario and whether it was possible to accomplish in FF.

I gave examples how it was accomplished with a XUL add-on, and natively in Edge. Those were just examples, the question was not about add-ons specifically.

That's why I posted the suggestion link so you can make suggest to Firefox development to see if they can do such changes to Firefox. This is only Firefox forum End user help and can't do as what your asking.

People are still welcome to help or make suggestions when it come to Extensions. This forum is not only for support of base default Firefox install as you think it is.

Security wise, Mozilla does not like the idea of people being able to run a random iamreallyatrojan.exe as people would then blame Mozilla and or the Firefox browser for their own mistake in infecting their Windows OS.
