Automatic deployment of email signatures to multiple Thunderbird users.

more options

I know that Thunderbird supports importing of file based signatures, indeed I assume that signatures are stored locally in the profile folder as a file.

I was wondering has anybody found a tool that can automatically poll a share on a network (or a html page for that matter) for a new version of a signature that can be copied to the users Thunderbird profile so that user automatically gets a new signature from time to time?

I think this is very do-able and for us is an important component of switching business customers from a desktop version of Outlook on Windows to Thunderbird on Linux. If there is no such tool we might spend some time looking at it ourselves (or paying someone to do it) but I was hoping someone else has done this...?

Are you aware of the enterprise list? Possibly a better place to find folk experienced in deploying Thunderbird at scale. https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/enterprise

However your assumption about storage is only as correct as your user account setup. Sure the profile can have a signature stored in a preference, or a local file can be used. In the instance of the signature stored in a file however, there is nothing preventing that file being stored on the server and updated whenever necessary. Be that a common signature file for everyone on a common network share, or one stored in the users home directory on the server. Either way accessible via server admin update of the relevant files. I would think probably a preferable approach

If you have not already been there, a visit to the enterprise web pages might be helpful to you as well. https://enterprise.thunderbird.net/

HI Matt, that's helpful, I was not aware of either of those enterprise spaces so I will take a look over there today. We do like to use Firefox ESR in our deployments so it is good to know there is some enterprise specific groups I can look at.

I take your point about a common signature hosted in a shared location which would tick some boxes.

I am hoping that we might be able to pull variables to inject into the signature e.g. Name, Job Title, Email Address.

Thanks very much for posting. On the basis of what you've said already I'll say this post is solved.
