I had created a number of new container categories (ie: news, financial, internet). This morning they are all gone, only the four that are in the add-on are left (personal, work, banking, shopping). I have sync turned on, even clicked the sync button again. I had a lot of sites set to open in particular containers, now they all ope in personal. If this is going to continue, is there a way to back up my list of containers? Using Firefox 103.0 (64-bit) on a windows 10 pc.

Note that those four containers (Personal, Work, Banking, Shopping) are built-in containers and aren't added by the MAC extension.

Container data is stored in containers.json in the Firefox profile folder. Maybe check:

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

Same thing happened to me, around the same time. I noticed all my custom containers had disappeared. I quite FF, and used macOS Timemachine to downgrade FF in the /Applications From: Firefox 103.0.1 (20220729222726) Installed on: August 2, 2022 at 9:57:06 AM To: Firefox 101.0.1 (20220608170832) Installed on: June 10, 2022 at 12:16:07 PM and I restored $HOME/Library/Application Support/Firefox to an approximately June 10 2022 state.

My contains came back, and I created a zip compress of my restored App and App Support folders. My guess is it will happen again when firefox updates. We'll see??

I'm wondering if there's a way to backup the container identities. I've added about 32 customer containers and they are getting rather disorganized. Better managment (like re-ordering them in the menu) would be nice.

Update: Aug 6th, 2022 - - I restarted FF and observed it updated to 103.0.1 - - my custom containers are preserved. Perhaps skipping 102.0, 102.0.1 avoided losing custom containers???

I'm on a Windows pc, so I've set my nightly backup to include the ff profiles folder. I can always extract the .json file from there. Thank you both for your input. I don't think I can really mark it solved, as there is no guarantee it won't happen again in the future. Hopefully, mozilla will take notice.
