Confused how updates are done with firefox
I had a version of firefox working. The world was sweet.
One day (1 July or there about) things changed and firefox was basically useless. When I load it, all logins are forgotten and I have to log in again. (Painful, and another thread)
That aside: The "new" version was 102.0 This was applied to my machine without me knowing. (This also happened on another machine I have but luckily it didn't suffer the same problem.) But anyway...
The machine now has 102.0 installed.
The other day while trying to find what is "broken" in it, I am told there is an update and it told me I had 13 days to do it.... Or something like that. Alas I've deleted the screen shot as I need to keep the bin less full to help me if I accidentally delete something I shouldn't.
So now I have 102.0.1
So I'm confused: What is the mechanics of rolling out updates? An update I didn't want (beside the point) but none the less broke firefox was done without my knowledge, and yet another one which was throwing up messages at me when I loaded firefox doesn't?
I don't really know what either update did.

What OS? Your distro updates their version of Firefox. I use my distro version and the same version from Mozilla. I would ass-u-me your distro will notify during it's normal update process and the Mozilla version will do the same. Right now openSUSE is still at 101.0.1 while Mozilla is at 102.0.1.

Ubuntu groovy gorilla (21.04 - that part is certain) 64 bit GNOME 3.38.5 Windows System X11 32 Gig ram (I need that as I had 16 Gig and firefox kept falling over because of too many open tabs)
I don't know how/where to get the other information. I'm still new to this world.
I'm also not sure which of the (many) programs is the equivalent to what you showed me there.
I have: DISCOVER GDEBIAN PACKAGE MANAGER UBUNTU SOFTWARE and SOFTWARE UPDATER.... I can't see the complete names of some. As I said, I'm new to this.

No problem and welcome to the real world. ;-)) All you need to do is get your google on and find the answer to the questions you have. Ex. Google speaks...
i would also download Firefox from Mozilla and just run it from the folder. You can test future issues with your distro version and Mozilla. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

Ok... I meant I don't know how to get the information like how you showed me.
I know if I go to Help/About firefox I get the version.
But you were/are running a program of which I don't know the name of in Ubuntu. It shows you a lot more info about the program than I get when I ask/use the ones I have.
I'm wanting to share that.
But really at the end of the day I'm not getting why the update to 102.0.0 happened without my knowledge but to update form 102.0.0 to 102.0.1 I got a pesky requestor popping up with no real information.

Um, firefox came "in the box" with the distro I think. Or if it didn't: it installed itself all behind the scenes and so I don't know where it is.
I don't have a "firefox" icon anywhere handy I can do the RMB trick on. It is only in my app list and the side bar/hot launcher thingy.

I know where that version of the program is on mine.
(This forum is painful to attach pictures as I can't seem to be able to drag-n-drop the pictures.)
But how you got that information on Firefox is interesting.
Anyway, all this isn't explaining to me why one update happened in the background and the other didn't.
