My Tbird no longer shows me a "Send" button once I have written a new email or am trying to reply to a received email. I've searched for possible settings regarding this, but have not located any in Tbird's help section. How can I repaid this loss?

This post is about "Send" on Tbird 52.9.1 (32 bit). To date, David has suggested a possible repair option for some later Tbird version, which of course did not work. Matt has suggested upgrading to a newer version of Tbird or, God forbid, upgrading my OS to some later and buggy versions of MS OSes, which are not very useful.

I have given you instruction for making the menu visible and locating the relevant toolbar in all versions of Thunderbird since about V5. to wit "you will be wanting the view menu in compose (write). If it has no menu bar, try pressing F10 with it active. That turns on the bar while you click on it."

So we are back to square one: the "Send" options of Tbird 52.9.1 (32 bit) which is the last version that works with my much preferred and non-buggy OS -- WIN XP, which is still being used by thousands, if not millions, of users around the world!
V52 is not supported. XP is not supported. That you can't get free support for unsupported software is a price you pay for choosing to continue using it.
If there are other suggestions from 1) the Mozilla staff

Mozilla do not make, build or release Thunderbird. That is why their name is not on it and it is also why they do not list it on their web site as a product. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/products/

The Thunderbird web site also lacks Mozilla in the about us See https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/about/

Thunderbird is a community project and has been for about a decade now.

This forum is a peer support forum. There are no paid support staff and it is largely unmonitored by development staff. Expecting them to comment is unrealistic.

or 2) Tbird users who are knowledgeable with Mozilla's Tbird V. 52.9.1 (32 bit), I would be most grateful for their suggestions for getting Tbird back to its proper working status?

Unlikely. Less than 4.5% of Thunderbird users are on a version less than 60. https://stats.thunderbird.net/ Only some of those will be on your version and even less of them will be seeking support.

All I can suggest is to select the compose window and then click View>Toolbars and see if 'Composition toolbar is checked. That's where the Send button lives.

Morning, David! Thanks for your attention and suggestion. I did as suggested and got the following:

A "Write: (no subject)" window allowing the creation of a new email with these headings: From:, Reply-to:, To:, Subject:, but no sign of a "Send option".

Clicking View > Toolbars, I got the following selections:

Menu Bar Mail Toolbar Folder Pane Toolbar Quick Filter Bar Status Bar

Customize

All items above the dotted line were preceded with checkmarks except for the 'Quick Filter Bar'. But there was no 'Composition Toolbar' !

Next, I clicked on the "Customize" option and a HUGE list popped up, but again, there was no "Send" option or options among them.

At the bottom of the "Customize" window, I saw: 'Show Icon & Text', 'Use Small Icons' and two buttons, i.e. 'Add New Toolbar' and 'Restore Default Set'.

I seem to recall that there were several 'Send' options like Send Now, Send later, but for now anything related to 'Send' seems to have disappeared into a black hole!

I hope my description(s) ring some bells so that you may have other ideas up your sleeves! This missing Send option business has been bugging me for about 3 days now! Over to you, dear Friend!

The issue is you are looking for exact instruction for a version of the product no one has used in recent years. Might I suggest upgrading to the current release version.

I can say that clicking view toolbars on the current version will give that list. But you will be wanting the view menu in compose (write). If it has no menu bar, try pressing F10 with it active. That turns on the bar while oyu click on it.

I am not in need of any of Tbird's newer options; however, the "Send" options are an important component of any mail client and my Tbird V. 52.9.1 did have visible and working "Send" options last week but have somehow disappeared into la-la-land. There must be some tricky way of getting them back on line making Tbird fully activated.

Looking forward forward to new replies from the savvy creators of or loyal users of Tbird's last version that works with WIN XP !!

Hello Matt!

Many thanks for your explanation of the Thunderbird Project. It clearly states the reality of Mozilla's connection to Thunderbird and that is why I sought help with the anomaly that my Thunderbird has lost or misplaced an important part of its being an email client -- the sending of messages. Thunderbird user communities seem to be very few despite the fact that Thunderbird is still a very popular application. I realize that many, or even most, support groups are volunteers who are very dedicated to making Thunderbird a most useful email client. I have received help from them in the past. But I gather that the times are a-changing and I will have to live with that.

I appreciate what the Mozilla team has provided and urge you to continue the work you do. This topic can now be marked as "solved".

shift + Enter is the keyboard shortcut for sending mail.

Hello, Matt!

Your mail of 5/18 really laid down the law for me and I began thinking about alternatives for my 'un-supported' Tbird 52.9.1 (32-bit) -- much to my dismay about what you had posted. But on 5/20, you posted a brief suggestion: "shift + Enter is the keyboard shortcut for sending mail." which I immediately tried. Much dismayed, it did not work!

However, that you had provided some new avenue with the words "keyboard shortcut" pushed me to start rummaging about the Internet for keyboard shortcuts for sending mail on Thunderbird. That opened a Pandora's box of shortcuts for me. Had I used a different topic title for my problem, the "send" problem would have been solved very quickly.

To cut the story short, I came across several other keyboard shortcuts for sending mail:

Ctrl+??? & Ctrl+Enter. The first one didn't work either, BUT THE SECOND ONE DID! Once a message is complete and ready for sending, Ctrl+Enter provides a small window that asks if I 'was ready to "send" my message' and provided two choices: Send now & Send later. WOW!

I share this information as it was the working solution to my original post 'The "Send" button is no longer visible on Tbird 52.9.1 (32-bit) !! ' and may offer the solution to other folks who have experienced the same problem. Forget about the Send button and go for its keyboard shortcut instead -- it's the way to go!

So my post is really "SOLVED!!" at this time. I would have gone off on a wrong track without your mentioning the words "keyboard shortcut", thanks for your time, comments and continued help in solving my problem. Kudos to you!
