Large video files from Microsoft OneDrive repeatedly fail to download; working in other browsers

Every week, for work, I need to download at least one large video file from Microsoft OneDrive and then upload it to YouTube. (These are MP4s in the range of 200 - 800 MB.) For the last couple of months, maybe longer, the download keeps failing in Firefox. When I switch to Chrome, the same MP4 downloads with no problem.

Any idea what might be going on? Usually the file starts downloading just fine; I see the bar gradually filling up in the notification area, but then it suddenly stops and says "Failed." If I retry, the same thing just happens again.

I'm not using any kind of download manager (that I'm aware of), just relying on Firefox's default download behavior when I click on the "Download" link on the OneDrive web page (sample URL: https://olucdenver-my.sharepoint.com/personal/YADA_YADA/_layouts/15/onedrive.aspx?id=LONG_QUERY_STRING_HERE).

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a download manager.


This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org It is a powerful modern download accelerator and organizer for Windows and Mac.

FredMcD, thanks for your reply. It's good to know that this might solve the problem, but I was already aware of the existence of download managers (as implied by the part of my question where I wrote, "I'm not using any kind of download manager (that I'm aware of)").

My point is, shouldn't the default downloading functionality in Firefox work correctly? I don't understand why I should need to install an add-on just to get a large file to download correctly from a major platform like Microsoft OneDrive. This seems like a bug that could potentially be fixed. Do you not think that's the case?

What security software do you have?

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Some have no problem. Others do. Using a download manager also adds options and more.

@FredMcD, I tried adding a download manager -- "Download Manager (S3) by Oleksandr," which has a 4.3-star rating and 63,000+ users. This made no difference. I just tried downloading the latest MP4 file from OneDrive, and it's failing repeatedly, even with the new download manager.

As for the possibility that anti-virus/security software is interfering, why would that only cause a problem in Firefox but not in Chrome? That doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not an expert.

Any other ideas?
