I have identified a security problem with latest version of T-Bird. Rather than publish it, would a T-Bird staff member please contact me at my registered Email address. Thanks, Joe

At the above link, I have tried to register for access … twice. I have verified my Email is correct, but it never sens me a confirmation Email so I can set a password and complete registration.

I need help, so here is the problem: … Subject: Password-entry Window “Cancel” Button allows access to Email.

I recently started using a password to access my private Email with T-Bird. There seems to be a bug that allows access, even though you have not entered the password.

When you start up T-Bird, it gives you a window to enter the password. If instead you decide to cancel from window, the password window returns, along with the first-page list of all your Emails, subjects and senders included. If you cancel again, it gives you full reading access for individual Emails. However, it will not allow you to send Email.

1. Open T-Bird, and it asks me for a Password. 2. Leave it blank and click “Cancel”. 3. T-Bird then opens to display my main list of Emails, then it re-displays the Password request 4. If I click “Cancel” one more time, the password request goes away and stops asking for a password. However, T-Bird does not close, and I can now read each Email. 5. Attempts to send Email just hangs until it times out.

That's not a bug. The password it's asking for is for connection to the incoming server to fetch new messages etc. It's NOT meant to protect emails that it had already downloaded in previous sessions from being displayed. I'm afraid you've completely misunderstood what the password prompt is for. Thunderbird has never had a password to unlock its access. There is no password protection for general access to Thunderbird.

A master (now called primary) password is probably what you're seeing.
