Hello there !!!

Today I had serious damage to my Mozilla Firefox. When I started up Firefox I realized that I lost all my opened tabs on all my (three) opened windows, although I had checked the box "Restore previous sessions" in the settings section.

I opened "settings" and I saw this box unchecked !!!!!

The unfortunate event of this failure is that I restarted Firefox and even worse I restarted the PC.

Now I wonder, after all these, if there is a way to restore all my lost TABs that, I believe, there are hidden somewhere...

You can try to restore a recent upgrade.jsonlz4 file in the sessionstore-backups folder. You can look at this tool to inspect a compressed sessionstore file.

You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

  • previous.jsonlz4 (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.jsonlz4 from previous session that was loaded successfully)
  • recovery.jsonlz4 (latest version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
  • recovery.baklz4 (previous version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
  • upgrade.jsonlz4-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.jsonlz4 to replace the current file with Firefox closed.

  • make sure to backup the current sessionstore.jsonlz4

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

Well Dear cor-el

Well done! You are really a "Top 10 Contributor Moderator"!!! The issue is fixed and I thank you very much for that. Although being late, I couldn't restore the very early tabs but only TABs that were stored on October 6, which means that TABs are ten days old.

And of course, it remains for me "Terra incognito" how the box "Restore previous session" on Startup was unchecked and create all this trouble... If you may guess something about this I would be very glad to hear from you your opinion...

Being very thankful for your solution on the issue,

JOHN HATZITOLIOS

cor-el,

I have pretty much the same problem, but I'm on a Mac. Firefox crashed the last time I shut down my computer (two days ago), and when I restarted a few minutes ago I found that Firefox had updated and all of my saved/open tabs were gone (about 25 tabs). No "restore tabs" option available in History

I looked at the answer that you gave to rogergr311049, but I'm afraid it was gibberish to me, perhaps because I am not on a PC but quite possibly because my knowledge level is lower. I'd greatly appreciate any help that you can give me on this matter.

Thanks,

Tom
