I deleted/disabled a bunch of Certificates of Authority for some unrecognized sites and now Firefox won't accept any site

I saw some warning regarding a certain cert of auth, and in checking that feature out, saw a bunch of sites that I never visit, and thought I'd "clean up." Now NOTHING works. I tried to undelete them, but that didn't work.

I know I could uninstall and reinstall, but I'm afraid that Firefox will recognize my account and reinstate all my settings including the unwanted changes of certificates of authority. I just want to reset Firefox to whatever default status it comes with without losing all my bookmarks and passwords - is that even possible?

Try to rename the cert9.db file (cert9OLD.db) in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to remove intermediate certificates and exceptions that Firefox has cached.

If you have cert8.db and cert_override.txt then rename/remove these files as well with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
