VPN and internet security program
1. Does VPN replace internet security program (I currently have Norton 360) and all its attending features such as anti-virus, firewall etc? 2. When I go online to shop or research topics, these sites often suggest that I allow their "extensions" to be added to my devices to "enhance" my experience on their sites or so they can provide me with more "relevant" information to me. With VPN installed how will this affect my interactions with these sites? Are these extensions only a guise for these companies to collect my personal information ?

No. A VPN is used to bypass your current Internet Service Provider (at home, work, coffee shop, hotel, etc.) by connecting directly to the VPN service provider. Your "offramp" to the internet is changed in the process, which may be desirable if you want to appear to be located somewhere other than your physical location.

That sounds pretty sketchy. Random websites do not need you to install extensions just to read information or sell you stuff. You should be very selective in what extensions you install and make sure you completely trust the source. See: Tips for assessing the safety of an extension.
