When I login to Hulu.com, I am returned a white page that says, "403 Forbidden nginx" And the address in the URL bar is, "https://auth.hulu.com/web/null//null/welcome". However, if I change it to http://hulu.com, I am presented with my homepage. I shouldn't have to type hulu.com into the address bar. It should take me there, automatically when I click "Log In". This is happening in Firefox on both a windows 10 machine and a Linux Mint machine. why?

Do you use a bookmark or are you starting with the main (home) page of this website?

If you use a bookmark to access a specific page then instead navigate to this page starting with the main page or with the sign in page in case there is a problem with this bookmark.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Bad news: I just now closed Firefox and restarted Firefox. Then I tried to log in to Hulu.com and the captcha keeps looping. I am doing the captcha correctly and after I click Log In, i am prompted to do another captcha. WHAT! how can this be related to the 403 Forbiden message? This captcha problem is the first time for me, so I am at a complete loss for how to proceed.

I have tried everything you suggest and after restarting in safe mode, I find that I cant get passed the Captcha thing. it just keeps looping back to captcha every time I click on Log In I am just now trying to figure out where to find hardware acceleration in Firefox. something is hosed up.

I think you were on to something with regard to how am I starting the login page for hulu. because I was using a link that goes straight to https://auth.hulu.com, but this time I reloaded with the shift key per your suggestion, going straight to http://hulu.com and then clicked on login to fill in email and password and captcha and inexplicably, I logged into the welcome page flawlessly. I will restart Firefox and try to duplicate my success.
