The "PRINT PREVIEW" option I have found under the "FILE" drop down is GONE!!! I Please tell me HOW to get it back (or at least find it somewhere else)! I absolutely DEPEND on this function for processing orders and printing packing slips !!!!

This is NOT an improvement for me!!! This is absolutely horrible!

You should get the Print Preview window if you open "File -> Print".

For now you can set print.tab_modal.enabled = false on the about:config page to revert to the old dialog.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

PRINT PREVIEW NEEDS TO STAY

Hi JTD, the goal is to integrate preview, setup, and printing into a single panel similar to other applications. Based on the history of Firefox adding other new features, it's unlikely we will be able to keep both the new and classic print experiences far into the future. So if you have specific concerns about the new print experience, this would be a good time to share them. However, SHOUTING about the situation will not help.

Thankyou for your reply. Shouting it is not. I am expressing severe frustration and you don't appreciate what myself and others like about Print Preview. The new version isn't as easy as the previous version. In the original version you went straight into Preview and there it was and you could delete ,crop whatever.I do not see this in the new version. I have tried but the page is small print so I increase size it goes berserk. It just doesn't have the ease of use. Why change something that works great.

Hi JTD, this doesn't sound familiar:

> In the original version you went straight into Preview and there it was and you could delete ,crop whatever.

Were you using an extension like Print Edit to modify the page before printing? Here's the one I think of when you refer to deleting items from print preview:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/print-edit-we/

Since Firefox 57, we call it up using its toolbar button, it isn't part of the classic built-in preview screen.

I looked this up and don't remember print edit. When I clicked onto File there was a line showing Print and underneath that was Print Preview that's what I want back.

I'm bothered that you don't seem to any longer get a fully simplified page to print with the new interface. I just wanna print recipes without all the inbeds (which selecting "simplified page" has formerly corrected) and now to be able to do that I have to go about a long, tedious, ancient process of copying and pasting to a word doc. Feels like I'm in highschool again, taking and hour to print just the text from a single web page. -_- As much as I hate the new look of the print UI - it's very microsoft and that is not a good thing imo - I just want the "simplified page" button back.

Yes, it's all combined now: Print, Preview, and Page Setup. No more separate lines.

I understand that the preview image is too small for users who either have a lower resolution display or who reduce the width of the window. I hope that is fixed but I don't have a timeline for it.

There is a request on file to add Simplify Page to the new print experience, but I don't have a timeline for that yet. Until then, you need to make the change described in the solution to switch back to the classic print experience.

Life was simple-no longer-since the file print preview simplify page in the drop down menu is gone. Now the new pop up printing is annoying and takes too much time. Reading the config instructions means zero to this old person who has found sometimes that following these steps does not always result in fixing things. Why change something easy to use that gets desirable results is beyond me. Please don't emulate other browsers as some say you are doing. Young people you don't have to fix the tried and true which that was. Please bring it back! And if there is a way to bring back what you took away please give simple instructions designed for dopes like me.

Hi rbimm, here it is in a more first, second, third way:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste tab_mo and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the print.tab_modal.enabled preference to switch between the new experience (true) and the classic experience (false)

(4) If there is another preference named app.normandy.startupRolloutPrefs.print.tab_modal.enabled you can double-click that one to switch it to false as well. If you do not have that one, no need to create it.

Since you are setting to false, it will look roughly like this:

Dear Firefox Developers, Please do not get rid of the ability for all of us to be able to Print Preview as we can now at least with the use of print.tab_modal.enabled configuration option....for now. As a tech challenged user, and no desire to be a "developer", I was amazingly able to follow some things mentioned in this thread to get my printer working like the old days before the "improvement"..(yeah, took me 2 hours, nearly a 1/4 ream of paper and I do not want to have to learn code in future to use this infernal typing box...just want to quickly print a page) Now you say..."The print.tab_modal.enabled configuration option will be removed in future." NO!!! please NO!!! Don't remove the option in future...please. Stop being so "Helpy"....Please. Do not prevent your users from having a Print preview option as before...the new interface is extra steps and when used by me, no matter the % adjusted, the final Print was HUGE and not at all as was shown in the "new" Preview... As the old saying goes..."if it ain't broken, don't fix it" PLEASE!

Hi lbliles, when you were using the new print overlay, what features did not work the way you needed? As you probably noticed, you can click "More settings" in the right column to adjust the scaling of the printout, and this should be reflected on the preview in the left column.

This part is strange:

when used by me, no matter the % adjusted, the final Print was HUGE and not at all as was shown in the "new" Preview...

A user reported a similar issue on the community site mozillaZine: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3072161

If you review the settings there and find that your Firefox settings are all fine but the printout is still enlarged, could you file a bug providing the developers information about your system and printer and see whether they can solve it -- before it's too late:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

Will someone that CAN register and repost this issue to bugzilla....sheesh! This is a painful process...Thank you for your suggestions but they have not worked except for "The print.tab_modal.enabled configuration option"....please continue with that.

Hi everyone, cor-el's post was marked as the solution by the person who asked the original question (timestreasures). For better help, it would be best to use https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/form where volunteers can get more details about your setup.

Because this thread is solved and more people might start using it for their own questions, I'm going to lock it.
