Firefox Sync didn't get everything, how to proceed?
Hi. I am moving my Firefox settings from the old IBM to the new MintBox computer. Both run Linux Mint. Procedure so far followed:
1. Bring over key4.db and logins.json 2. Sign in to Firefox sync and import everything.
Over here I got my custom settings to save all cookies, even third party cookies, for the session. There were Exceptions, which did not come over. (Here I will Allow Always the websites I keep a cookie to log in automatically or set site preferences. I may even blockm certain third party sites from storing cookies. These deviate from the default, to allow for session.)
I did not get the custom thumbs I created over there for my New Tab start page pinned sites. I got the pinned sites OK.
This didn't work: I copied the .mozilla folder from my home and pasted it here by way of a flash driveafter backing up this profile. That didn't work when I brought Firefox up from a Thunderbird Mail link.
So now I looked to see what my Profile folder is called, stored in my home/.thunderbird/firefox/{Profile} as found under Firefox Help > Troubleshooting. I copied that folder onto a flash drive and have it available here.
How best to proceed? First I back .mozilla up, then open Firefox and go to the Troubleshooting page and open my active Profile. Then:
Copy selected files from my Profile over on the Flash drive and paste them individually here?
Delete everything here before pasting in a copy of the contents of the imported profile?
Don't delete anything here and paste contents of my imported file, overwriting?
I am tending to want to go with the first choice, adding or replacing files here with selected files from the imported copy sitting on the flash drive.
Is there a specific list and description of the various profile files I need to paste in? An up-to-date reference containing this info?

You can copy certain files with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover personal data. Note that best is to avoid copying a full profile folder. Note that you should be cautious with copying SQLite database files if you previously had problems.
- bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
- favicons: favicons.sqlite
- bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
- cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
- formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
- logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db - cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db - persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
- permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
- sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

I found Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data that answers a lot of my question. Not sure if it has that list of cookie permissions, but it may well have.

There is a database file named permissions.sqlite which should contain cookie, popup, and other exceptions to your default permissions.

If you wanted to use your old profile folder, drop a copy in the new /Profiles folder but don't change the folder name. Use the Profile Manager to set up a new profile using the old folder name. See: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1307435#answer-1356183

Cor-el, thank you for this list of files. What I can do is back my current profile folder up, save that somewhere, with FF closed. Insert the missing information from your list of files out of my current profile on the other computer by pasting them to a thumbdrive, then over copy them and paste them into this profile.
If Firefox blows up on what I just did, close it and paste my backed-up profile in here after deleting this modified profile. Bring up Firefox and it should be back where I was?
Also, I have turned off AdBlockPlus add-on on various pages that have asked me to do so. What file would I restore all these ABP settings from?
I've marked it as Solved, but I still need to follow your directions to see how well this works. Should be straightforward, for I was using the latest Firefox the other computer on Linux Mint 19.3 64-bit Mate Desktop, now the latest Firefox here on LM 20 Cinnamon Desktop. LM 20 is only a 64-bit release.
