Is there a way to change which tab gets focus when a tab is closed?

When I updated Firefox today, it changed the way tab closures worked. In both the current and previous versions, when you open a tab from a page, the new tab opens above the current page in the tab list display, pushing any other open tabs above the current page up, so the most recently opened tab is just above the current tab.

In the previous version, when you closed a tab, and it was opened from the next tab 'down', Firefox would return to that tab, but if it was not, Firefox would switch to the next tab 'up' if there was one, and to the next tab down otherwise. Now Firefox always switches to the next tab 'down' in the tab list, and it makes tabs more annoying to read. .

Previously, if you had tab A, then opened tab B from a bookmark, then from tab B opened tabs C, D, E, and F, your tabs would be 'ABFEDC', and when you closed tab B, you'd go to F, and from F to E when closing F, then D, then C, until you closed C and went to A. Now, you open the same tabs ABFEDC, but when you close B, you're taken back to A, and have to go to the tab list to go to F, then when you close F, you're taken back to A again, and have to keep going to the tab list to read all the tabs you opened. (Before Daylight, tabs always opened to the far right, so you'd have ABCDEF and would move left to right as long as there were open tabs to the right.)

Is there any way to get the previous tab behaviour back, or is being forced to the tab list every time you close a tab another usability 'improvement' we're stuck with?
