I recently returned to my home computer after having been away from it for a few months.

When I pulled up Thunderbird; I found that all of my e-mails (including folders) are gone. I am wondering if the e-mail accounts may have become disconnected from the program.

Where can I go to see if the files are still there & how do I re-associate them with my account?

Who is your email provider and how were you configured to access your email? Have you checked to see if your default Thunderbird profile is correct? (run thunderbird.exe -p)

KRJ:

See attached in answer to your second question.

As for question 1; my e-mail providers are Hotmail/Outlook & Gmail.

Wow. Windows Vista? All bets are off with that old a version of Windows.

If you are trying to run an exe from the command line, you'll need to either CD to the directory that has the exe in it (i.e. something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird" or specify the full path:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe -p"

With Outlook and Gmail, you should be able to log into their respective web portals and confirm your account/email still exists.

I didn't say what my operating system was (& you didn't ask what it was.) For the record; I am using Windows7 on the affected computer.

With regards to my last reply: I attempted to follow the instructions that you gave me based upon my (limited) Computer knowledge.

Please give me STEP BY STEP instructions on how I can follow your instructions below. ("... Have you checked to see if your default Thunderbird profile is correct? (run thunderbird.exe -p) ....")

As an FYI, I am on a tight schedule & will not be able to continue working on this after 18 September as I will be going back to work & will not have access to my Windows7 Computer.

Thanks for the assistance.

The screen cap you posted showed a Windows version of 6.1.7601. I misinterpreted that as Windows 6 (Vista), but it is indeed Windows 7.

Step 1 is to confirm that your accounts are still functional and credentials are valid by logging into the web portal for each.

And once you've confirmed your accounts are still active, and that you can send and receive emails through their web interfaces, this thread may help troubleshoot Thunderbird.

Thanks - I know both accounts are still active as I use them daily.

Will take a look at your instructions & then get back to you.

I will take a punt that your computer has updated to Thunderbird 78 and your profile has changed and simply needs to be re-specified.

See https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2019/09/i-lost-my-profilemail-on-update-to.html

I wrote it for the 60 to 68 migration, but the profile per install is still causing issues for some folks.

It is Version 68.

I attempted to follow the instructions in the above link but the Troubleshooting link isn't opening.

Suggestions.

The main idea on that link (which I can open, btw) is that you need to try to find the profile as some upgrades create for you other profiles so what you see now (empty folder) is caused by an empty profile...

So you can check how many and what profiles are set on TB and you can do this by accessing Help menu, Troubleshooting Information - About:profiles and there you will find them (or you can start TB with command line thunderbird.exe -P). Any method you use - select a different profile as next to launch till you open the profile you are looking for (with those accounts & emails)

Please give me the complete Command Line that I need to enter to access the old records & tell me what I am looking for when I get there.

Thanks

How to send that command: https://support.mozilla.org/ro/kb/using-multiple-profiles You have there also the image with what you will see when send that command. Off-course you'll see other information (maybe some characters+numbers). Remember the one selected first time when profile manager open. That is the profile on which you are now. From that list select one by one a profile and it is very possible to find a profile which works... If none works, still, then at least you tried...

Just went there & only saw one profile.

Where would the old ones be?

Press Windows Key +R on the keyboard to open the Run dialog. Then enter: %appdata%\Thunderbird\Profiles

and click OK. How many folders do you see there?

This is what I see:

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=Profiles/e8kbkxiv.default

[Profile0] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/e8kbkxiv.default Default=1

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2

Is there a way to see what the last date is on the Profile?

The question was how many folders do you see after you make that command on Run (but not what's on your profile.ini file). Can you mention how many folders do you see after you "send" that command or if there is any issue with (or after) that command?

12 folders

Please see attached

OK, that's fine for the moment. Can you go up one level - to the upper folder as on that picture added by you on the last post - and make a screenshot also from that folder?

OK, nothing there neither... Search on all your computer (on all drives, including hidden and system files) for (without quotes): "prefs.js" files - how many results are there and where?
